Is this a good deal for used PDK C2S?
Hi all, new member here, I'm considering buying a Porsche and I've spent several hours reading other threads here, very educational
I'm in the market for a new toy, and I have narrowed it down to a used 2009 C2S PDK or a 2008 Jaguar XKR. (Leaning towards the C2S, but test driving the XKR on Tuesday.)
I've always driven automatic (don't laugh) and I had planned on getting something '06-07 Tiptronic (3 yrs old seems like the sweet spot for newness vs value to me) , but having test driven a new '09 C2S with the PDK and sport chrono (in sport mode + manual) I realize a Tip will seem like a let down after that ... PDK (and the 911) is awesome.
For the '09 C2S PDK I test drove, the list price was $99k. I am assuming, paying cash, I could probably get them down to 92k... a bit high for my budget.
Now I just found another dealership across town, that has the car's twin (even the same color) but used with 7k miles.
- 2009 C2S PDK
- Sport Chrono Package
- Bose, XM, ipod, bluetooth, a few other goodies I don't care about
For the used one they're asking $80k, again I'm assuming I can probably get it for 73-75k or so?
Comparing 92k to 75k for a nearly identical (albeit slightly used) car seems like a steal to me ... plus there are very few used PDKs around ... should I jump on this?
I'm also assuming that paying cash I can probably negotiate around 7-8% off the listed price, is that a decent assumption? Should I be thinking more aggressive? Especially with 09 PDK's there arent many used examples around so I don't feel like I have much leverage.

My guess is that there may actually be less room to negotiate with the used car as the factory is not kicking in the extra discount. It would depend on how much the dealer has in the used one.
I'd go for a great deal on the new one. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, that's interesting... saving only ~10k to go used is less attractive than ~18k.
To be honest though, I'd think if I went in to the dealership and offered 80k for the 99k listed 911 C2S, they'd verbally berate me... am I way off on that?
Anyone else with advice?

You allow them to "berate" you at your own expense ? In essence that is funding your own unhappiness . I have two dealerships that made the offer and a third which came close . No one berated me but they were a bit taken back by my insistance to get a good price as well as my firm stand on wrting a check on the spot.
You want a car ? Then you you have FOUR days until the end of the month with a cash deal and 80 K on a 99K might very well end up in your driveway .
If you are serious and want want to buy here and now I will point you to a few places where you might succeed . Of course it's up to them and you .

I am definitely serious, I am going to buy something in the next 30 days, looking for:
2009 C2S PDK (new or used), with
* Sport Chrono (must-have)
* Either of Bose, Sport Exhaust and Nav would be nice, though not a deal breaker
* color: no silver or black... red, white, green, yellow, brown, orange, blue are all acceptable
* No cab, hard top only
I'm curious, what do you mean by a 'few places where you might succeed' ? Dealerships who are known to be more friendly negotatiors or?

There are four days until the months end . Let me clarrify why I feel this is so important.
Porsche june sales were DISMAL . They possibly were the worst ever . http://www.cnbc.com/id/31685114
That was with the typical 5 to 10 percent discounts and the cars simply were not selling well in this economy.
Add to this a bunch of "pool cars" available many of which dealerships do not want .
I can sit here and delve into the economics or the why or how .. but that doesn't really matter . What counts for you is that just about every dealership needs to sell units to restore consumer confidence with some respectable July sales . With Porsche offering dealer incentives my guess is July will be a good month and that will push price up. Plus many of the "pool cars" at the port will be on lots or sold .
RIGHT NOW ... is the time to buy . Every unit counts . Here's the catch ..
1)You have to find a car and not be too picky with options.
2) Make the offer and do not flinch -- any offer is better than no offer and don't be afraid to walk.
3) Call dealerships and be ready to get on a plane and travel up and back in a day if the right car for the right price is confirmed .
4) Cash deal on the spot eliminates financing approval .
That's how its done .
On a personal note -It disturbed me greatly to hear you speak of being "berated" by any dealership . In my opinion that is a form of financial bullying and the bottom line is that YOU (the buyer) hold the cards . Even if you walk .. you still have the money and they don't.
Now there are some good guys in car sales and I can't guarantee if tomorrows price is the same as yesterday but I will give you a few that i called . I think you will end up with a car .
Good luck.

The Jag I'm going to test drive is silver, though I'm not a fan of the color, if I end up liking the XKR better (doubtful at this point), I'll probably take my time to hunt down one in Salsa Red.

Thanks for the PM, I wasn't able to reply since I'm a new member...
looking at the three web sites it's clear there's still a lot of unsold inventory out there which is good to know! Also good to know that a 15-20% discount is on the table (I had been thinking in the range of 7-10% so this will save me a lot of money!)
I'm not sure if I will be pulling the trigger by the end of the week, but either way, I will be sure to price at these dealerships before moving on a car! I'll also feel a lot less cheeky "lowballing" the local dealer.

I don't think you will get thse prices beyond the 31 and once Porsche pulls the program you won't come near it . By then the pool cars will be gone. 09 inventory will be over. 2010 models will have less production , and basically Porsche will meet the lower demand brought on by the economy. This has been the route of BMW and Mercedes too . No manufactuer wants to over produce cars when buyers are less . This recent economy plunge and how Porsche and the entire auto industry has been impacted is a one time evet and with June sales tanked .. this really is the time .
That's why i bought my car .I wasn;t even looking for a car but lower the price enough and even if I don;t need it some things are just too good to pass up.
