You're kidding right? There is not any after market exhaust that makes any meaningful power compared to stock. Some may make 5 - 10 but its all up high in the RPM range that is of zero use on the street.... optimum path? What is that?

im not talking about making power, im talking about losing it.

if this is the gundo hack, you have 2 parallel pipes with exhaust runing in them in the opposite direction,(1 coming into the muffler and 1 exiting).

and then you weld what amonts to an h-pipe connecting the 2 and you're telling me there is no interference?

dyno before and after the hack to see what you might have lost

I'm not sure you understand how a MUFFLER works... this is a device that is designed to REDUCE noise ONLY...it does so by running the exhaust through a bunch of baffles!! ... so if I bypass the muffler say... oh... by...25% you're saying the engine will LOSE power? Why? Remember this is at the muffler... the last most convoluted (sp?) part of the entire exhaust system... Please help me understand the logic?

All aftermarket systems are supposed to be "free flowing" for more power right? Yet this minor bypass is supposed to hurt the over all power output? I don't see it.

I do think it wont hurt your wallet that's why none of the aftermarket exhaust manufactures are speaking up. don't get me wrong... I love carbonfiber bits... and while they will save weight I'd be better off eating one lesss taco

optimum path is what the PSE accomplishes. it takes bypassed exhaust from one corner of the muffler, then routes and merges it into the primary exit tube going in the same direction and out of the tail pipe.

the bypassed exhaust in the gundo hack has to do a 180* to join with the exiting gasses.

get 2 water hoses and run the water at a perpendicular angle to each other and see what happens. in one of the pics, the angle was beyond perpendicular so the 2 streams were almost going at each other

But you're still not getting it... this all happens at the END of the exhaust system...only SOME of the exhaust bypasses the muffler.... and these are gases not WATER... the rest runs the normal path... and even if ALL of it bypassed the muffler then it would be just like an aftermarket BYPASS pipe... really though... if it feels cool spending $1500 - $2500 to feel like the exhaust gases are running optimally on a street car... that's okay... enjoy

you're bypassing the muffler by say 25%, thats good. what im saying is the path taken by that 25% is not optimal because its going against the flow.

have you ever seen a merge collector in a header? do you know why those pipes are angled the way they are when they merge together? its to facilatate a smooth flow in the correct direction and create a fast exiting exhaust stream.

same thing applies here

im sorry you cant see my point. you dont have to have a phd in fluid dynamics to see that its not a smooth exhaust flow. water and gas flow have similar properties.

it doesnt matter that its the muffler. if its creating backpressure because of interference, you're going to lose power. dyno it and come tell us.

.

Have you looked inside an aftermarket system? Holy smoly they pull a 180 degree turn to get the exhaust pointing to the rear.... in fact even stock exhaust do that... again... I understand it's hard to understand when you've invested so much $$$$$ in an aftermarket system... it's like thinking bottled water is better than tap.... if you're happy so am I

But there is a lot of beer to be purchased with the $$$ spent on an aftermarket system that brings no real value...

180* turns are ok. but show me a muffler that collides 2 exhaust streams at that angle.

and no need to get defensive. i did look into doing the hack but decided against it once i looked at it closer for the reasons stated above.

i went with tubi not for power, but sound. the hack sounds good but dont like its method
