Learned something cool about PDK

A few days ago Mdrums (Mike) posted that the car can aggressivily downshift by holding in the paddles and PDK will find the gear without over rev. It worked and it was great.

So I tried something else .. this was wayyyyy cool too .
Supposing one is slugging along in 6th gear in manual mode. I used to think that to downshift more than one gear I had to click the paddle more than one time . Not the case . Hold the paddle in and hit the gas and the car will find the right downshifted gear in an instant!!!!

That is very amazing.

That sounds awesome, PDK is truly amazing technology and an amazing transmission. Porsche should publish a "PDK Hidden Tricks" booklet for 997.2 PDK owners!

PDK is a fun toy. I also like to go blasting onto the freeway in 3rd or 4th, and then, after I reach escape velocity, just push and hold and let it drop into 7th.

It actually faster . The time it takes to move the lever from 6th to 3rd is cut down to an immediate response from the drivers foot . As soon as the gaspedal is hit with the paddles simultaneously pulled in a rapid computerized process finds that gear .

Since the car won't over rev the downshifting fears are somewhat relieved . With 7 gears on tap instead of 6 like a manual there are more choices as to where the sweet spot is for a move and the car can find it for you .

I have been talking with a friend of mine about his DCT . There are some similarities and differences . did read your post but wasn't sure how much these cars have in common . There are some DCT issues that I have read as well on the roadfly forum . I post in the BMW sections .

I have never driven a DCT M3 . My 08 is a manual and when I bought mine the car had just been launched . I am kinda learning as i go with this PDK .

I am sure it is faster, the system is designed to do so. I seem to remember a post you made the other day about a money shift that you had done accidently, so I am sure that the system has it's flaws. PDK is a very cool option, but I am not convinced that it is the right transmission for me. Perhaps in a few years I may consider one, but for now I will suck it up and deal with my combersome 6mt

I do not think the OP did any 'money shift' with his PDK. I do not think that is possible.

Northvan -My post was that the system IGNORED the money shift error . It prevented it . I did accidentally hit the pull tab instead of the push and when I did I realized it and prepared for the worst .It ignored my command completely .

It is not possible to money shift in a PDK. Unlike a manual .. the PDK will not allow it.

In fact --this ought to be a major selling point on PDK.

My mistake, I thought it did do the money shift for. Perhaps Mike can answer this question, does it downshift on command under heavy braking? The BMW M3 system didn't like to shift under heavy braking.

If you hold the paddles in --it will agressively downshift . Mike did share this and I tested it after reading his post.
The M3 is having Dct downshift issues . I post in this BMW forum (scroll down) and the DCT posts are plentiful. http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/bmw/bmw_m3_e90_e92/
