The damn Dragon sucks now
I'm telling you guys, I'm pretty pissed right now.
First off, I've got a 72 240Z that I'd bet my right arm is the nicest in America. really. So I've got a bit of a ricer in me. It's got a 2006 Sylvia Spec V SR20DET engine in it too.
Because of my ricer internals, I'm also on a ricer forum. They have a ROTM (Ride of the Month) ballot and my Z was nominated. However, I declined because it's not finished. So then they nominated my 911 and it won. With the ROTM title comes a free photoshoot.
The photog and I agreed on meeting at the top of Deal's Gap, also known as the Tail of the Dragon.
2 turns into it, I pass a few Harleys (why are they wasting our legendary road?) and come up on two more... that are cops! They pull me over, scream at me for a while. and tell me that 11 people have died on that road in 4-5 weeks. Geesh. So I follow the packs of Harleys without passing any until I'm at the top, have my photo shoot, and follow two ladies on Honda Rebels back down at 20-25mph. Guys, I've been driving the Dragon for a long time, but this is really proof of what over-commercializatoin can do for a good thing. So sad.
My ticket was for "Following too closely" since they couldn't get a read on my speed (thanks to my K40 Spectra!!!).

Hey Jared,
Sorry to hear about the Dragon...but glad to see you back and posting here again. Does this mean you're keeping the 911 and are healthy enough to enjoy her? I've followed you on this board as you built her and loved your articles in Excellence.
Cheers!

Jared, you are the only person I know that has had more photo shoots than Kate Moss! I am just glad that I can say I knew you when....
Just get some night vision goggles and go out there at 4AM.
Let me know where the pics will be posted or printed. Thanks.

Jared I just floged a rental car on the dragon a few weeks ago int he middle of the week. My fisrt time and I loved it and the tires on this poor rental car where talking to me all the way up!
The Dragon was totally empty the day I did it plus I started it a 4pm too.
The weirdest thing I saw was a guy in a F150 pulling a Malibu ski boat on the Dragon...WTF...lucky he was going from the north to the south end....my total other direction.

I wish there was someplace I could drive that wasn't filled with potholes and littered with cops. I think it's time I moved.

There are some other good roads in the area but of course it would ruin them if I posted which ones!
I've found the Dragon at sunrise from the Alcoa end is pretty open still. Of course the road may be damp and still have some treefall or rocks on it.

Jared I drove the Dragon Wednesday July 15th at 4pm. I drove from the south to the north as I was coming from Greenville SC and going to Nashville TN. From south to north nothing got in my way. going from north to south I saw a car, a few bikes and the guy towing his freakin' boat.
