I actually saw this car in the showroom of the Henderson (Las Vegas) Carmax last week. It looked very nice but I didn't drive it. One good thing about Carmax is that they have a five day/300 miles no-questions-asked return policy so you have time to have it carefully checked out and return it if you are not satisfied with its condition.

Thanks everyone -

Latest update is I'm trying to get eh PPI and DME scans done in Vegas before the car leaves since there are two P dealers in Vegas. If that doesn't work, the plan is to have the car redirected to Sacramento Carmax where the P dealer is only 5 min away.

They assured me they have a 5 day return policy but I do not want to write a big check prior to getting the scans and inspections done. Currently waiting to see if they can accommodate.

Thanks again everyone... for the Carmax info and all your help

In the meantime looking at an 07' C2 tomorrow with 37K miles - $49K

Okay - I think I've got this figured out.

The folks at CarMax were very accommodating - kuddos to them and you guys for some ideas.

Here's the plan:

- Keep car in Vegas and cancel the $200. transfer fee to Modesto
- Have Carmax take the car to the local Porsche dealer for the PPI tomorrow
- Discuss PPI with the dealer
- Decide on purchase, if YES, fly to Vegas to get car, if NO, happy to 'offer' car to 6 community - maybe sharing the cost of the PPI....

Seems like a win for everyone. Carmax has confidence the car checks out if I don't buy it and I'm only out a small sum if I find something else and don't buy it or I fly to Vegas and buy the car...

It would still have to drive and look fine of course an the Porsche dealer does not have a Paint meter - bummer

Thanks again - now I'm on my way to look at a local 2007 C2

cool.... hopefully it all works out and you get a great deal..

but if you don't buy it because of the PPI or DME scans...... then why would someone else here want it???

The price creep is killing me... :-(

I think this car is a good/great deal and I like the options, however by the time I add tax, tags it'll be close to $70K. I started all this last summer with a $50k budget and ended up with a great lease on an 08' M5 instead. That's held me over till now.

I still want a 911 but my latest reasoning is maybe an 06' or 07' for less than $50K (with tax/tags) is a smarter choice. They are not really gonna be any different than the 08' right? If I did want to spend the $70K why not wait till next year and get a used PDK which would be a lot different.

Make any sense? My head is still spinning - 08' = good deal, 09' next year = better deal? Argh, I just know I need a 911 in my garage - BTW, was also a step away from a used 996 for $20K..... spin, spin , spin....

Sorry for the rambling.

Wait a minute, the P dealer does not have a paint meter? If I understood you right, that is BS. Next thing you will hear is that they can't run the DME scan.... Sounds like they are accommodating though. Hopefully all still checks out.
It is stating the obvious a bit, but you should ask all the obvious questions to get the direct answers - any bodywork? any engine mods? accidents? get the P service record for any major repairs.

That's what he said to me.... no paint meter. But they will check all scans, and DME and discuss everything with me ($300 for the PPI). He said they'd be able to tell if it was in an accident but not if the bumper, etc, was re-sprayed at a good shop.

Thanks

The one P dealer in Las Vegas is Gaudin Porsche, their service dept. is competent so you should get a good PDI. They do not have an in house paint/body shop. It is a fairly small sized, modern facility considering they also have Jaguar and Aston Martin at the same location. If you come up to buy the car, Carmax is open on Sundays, the new car dealers in Las Vegas are not. I think Carmax will be open on Labor Day as well. If you are going to pay cash make sure to bring proof of insurance from one of your other cars, and be prepared to go online to your bank and show you have sufficient funds in the account you are writing the check on. I don't have any connection with them but i know some of their procedures from a recent transaction.

The paint meter can be solved by contacting a local body shop through the porsche dealership as stated by SLA. Travel, expenses and time bring you to 70K .
The "haggle free " nature of your deal has a locked price but I peeked in your area.
BTW they also have an 06 car too.

I found this 08 car at a Porsche dealership . http://porsche.niello.com/details.php?id=21838
Was $78,998
Now $71,999

Thanks Larry - I think that puts things into perspective. They also have a C4S with 12K miles for $69.9. But I guess the 4S's depreciate faster. The CarMax 2008 (and many others) potentially was sold at a large discount as well.

In the end I decided to pass on the car and lower my dollar amount as it's too close to a new 09' C2 price (for me). If I spend that mount of money I need to LOVE the car and keep it for a for along time... I did not get the PPI done and I thnk it's a GOOD deal, would love to know if anyone makes a move on it.

I think I got so excited about seeing a 2008 C2S for $63K that I ignored a few other details (travel, PPI, history, etc.). If it was local, had some records, and I was able to bargain a bit it would be different. Additionally I didn't mention I originally found the car last weekend and was inquiring about it. Then it disappeared the first time from the site and they told me it was gone.

I saw it again on Sunday morning and called and it was available. I wanted to get a few questions answered and they told me they could do it monday morning. I called monday morning and and was told I'd get a call back, which I did. When I returned the call, they said my 2-hour window had closed and someone else was shipping the car to Kentucky. Needless to say I was disappointed but accepted the fact. Then, on Wed. I see the car was back on the site and was shocked! I called and it was available and at this point I was emotionally attached :-) = bad.

I've now readjusted my search for an 'under $50K' C2S in an attempt to save a few $$$.

Sorry for the fire drill and thanks to everyone that had suggestions.

BTW, just found this on Cars.com - Of course it's even further away but love the aero look... and price.

I'm kinda glad that you thought this through . Plus you also did get to see that the 70K (total cost had you travelled ) can buy a lot of car.

The car you listed has no vin . That's important .
I'll peek at Norcal and see if anything turns up in the price range . Keep in mind that 50K will get a great car but it may have less warranty due to iys age and that can often be the dealbreaker . The cost of repairs can add up .

Just FYI -I have looked last week with other members in this price range in their regions and nothing great turned up . This 45K -60K price range is very tough to find cars in thse days .

Another good find. You truly have your finger on the pulse of the Porsche marked (both new and preowned). I guess that's what happens when you've owned so many! I'm really happy with my carmona red but the white was also a color that intrigued me. I would have taken a serious look at this car if it was available when I got the bug! What do you think of their list and sale price? When I was looking at this dealer... they would not budge at all on a 2006 C2s which had 45000 miles on it coming off lease. It was so disappointing to walk in and to see that car covered with rock chips which had very poorly repaired by someone who got overly excited with the touch up paint! Most important advice to all and to the OP... is to see the car in person and obviously drive it and check the DME. What looks like a really good deal may not be when you are looking at the car up close. The aforementioned lease disaster was even seen reasonably up close by a friend who thought it looked good. My heart sank when I saw it. I think you'll look at a car much more carefully if you're thinking of buying. Good luck to the OP.
