15 to 20 percent depending on region and day of the month . 73K would actually be a great price but they may let you walk but that's fine .. you still have the money in your pocket while the car collects dust on their lot . You can always pay more the next day OR shop a few dealerships and compare prices.

I would think more. This is last year's model. It reallly has limited options - seems like a "stripper" to me. No sport chrono, leather, nav, bose, no major options. This will be a hard car to sell used - and will be difficult to sell new as well. Sure it is an '09 S, but this car should sell well at the low end of the market.

about 1 year ago i managed to get a 11% discount on a custom order, so i'm assuming closer to 15-20% off. given its a instock unit, they probably want to clear the unit as as possible. 2010 stock in on its way and like mentioned above, it doesn't seem like a commonly spec'd car...
at 70-73K it would be a great buy... since it's still a current model (no significant changes in 2010) and new vehicle...

I don't think you will get it for 73k. Even if it's a weird color combo.
The sales figures are not as hot as they were a few years ago but they are not as abysmal as you would hope for to negotiate a crazy deal.
I think you can expect 15% off for a full cash transaction and maybe 10-12% off and 1.9% financing. At these numbers the dealer is making very little profit.

Probably true about stealing the car for $73k. To the OP, I would only keep in mind that the car is a stripper and will be very hard to sell used. Probaly not a bad lease car though. I know someone that ordered a similarly equipped car - with the intention of tracking it. Not sure if that might be the idea here.
P is really intent on moving the '09s, interesting that it is a different approach from the '08s. I would agree that there is hard to imagine any dealer profit after a 15% discount. Interesting to here that the '10s will not come until Nov, that is really late. Guess that gives them more time to clear inventory.

Thanks for the feedback. I have an 05 997S with 21k miles and runs great. Nav, Chrono are the only options. Problem is that it is out of warranty and I wonder if I should plunk more money into it with more mods ie exhaust, carbon, intake, etc or sell this one and use the money as a down payment on an 09. I'll take a look at the car this weekend and see what the numbers look like. Will let you know.
Thanks guys

I looked myself on how prices on used cars jumped up and I do have enough reserves to afford `09 right now, but, well, this `06 car I just got runs by much way better than I can drive it. I think it is just a psychological thing - to remain happy with what you got or constantly push the limits for better stuff out there.

There is a big push to suggest buying the new "last year's" model. These are great buys for these cars compared to anything historically offered for a Porsche. But heck, 25 g's is a lot of money. You are talking about 50% more money for a car that is marginally different. And recent history has shown that the value of the $50k used P car is holding really strong. I'd rather personalize mine and look at really low depreciation than have the benefit of warranty and look at major depreciation and a really significantly greater investment. $25k is 50% more money in a car.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the feedback. Car was sold when I got there, which made my decision easier. I noticed there were a lot of 997s with pdk still on the lot. I'm more old school and prefer the 6 speed, so I didn't consider making a deal on another P-car. I agree 25K is a lot of dough for an upgrade. So for now, I'll just lay low.
