You don't drive your car enough!

Maybe we can design an automatic bubblewrap for when we park in lots!

Well, I also own a pickup truck but what it really comes down to is simple care and consideration. To me, it doesn't matter what I park next to, I just always exercise care when opening the door cause I'm a big believer in karma.

It's sad more folks don't appreciate the property of others.

Henry, I'm the same way. I was taught to respect my belongings and the belongings of others. That's why I truly am boggled by the fact that others would go out of their way to do something like this when there is no good reason (i.e., they're not closer to the entry; they're putting their vehicle in jeopardy by threatening mine; etc). It seems very antagonistic to me. Regardless of the vehicle I'm driving, I treat others as I would hope to be treated. I guess that's a strange concept for others to consider.

When I had my 996 C4S, just two weeks into my ownership, I park right next to a handicap space that was empty and, surely, some a*&$les park right next and very close in a huge 70s Monte Carlo held up by rust and bondo. I am right there, inside my car, and the passenger just swung the door open and bang! dings my door. The nerve on her when she said it was no big deal, just a minor ding. I just couldn't believe the nerve but knew very well that there was no point arguing since I assessed the damage could easily be fixed by a Paintless Dent Repair guy. Moments later, here she comes out with her beer in a bag ready to drink it at 10 in the morning on a weekday. Cretins come in all sorts I guess.
Now that is some elitist thinking.

well gents i'd hate to say but so many people dont even realize that we have "special" cars. Some people judge a car solely on what color it is, one person i met thought their 12 year old pontiac sunfire was superior because it was a "red convertible".

It annoys the heck out of me b/c i bought my pcar without a single dent scratch or anything, she must have solely been a pleasure vehicle that never stopped anywhere. I've only had it 4 months and already there are dings in my doors from careless/ignorant people that park next to me when I clearly park FAR away.

You know what I dislike most about owning my Porsche? That it's a Porsche. The stigma, the hype, the jealousy, the resentment, what the mark connotates for some people. I love the car for a ton of reasons and none of them have to do with the status or the hype. It doesn't surprise me that people might go out of their way to hunt one of our cars down to ding it.

You gotta be kidding.

All what matters regarding parking around is perhaps that we need to put clear bra on doors to prevent them from being scratched.

I'm not so worried about scratches on the door or fenders as much as actual dents.

I avoid the handicapped spots, as it seems that the handicapped drivers are usually in some huge boat of a vehicle and being given such large spaces, they never park anywhere close to correctly in them... usually diagonally or 3 feet over the lines. Physically handicapped and getting a blue hang tag usually produces a mental handicap in the drivers, form my experience.

I know what you mean, but the spot that I choose to park close to it is about 10 ft away from the handicapped spot.

Now, WHY don't this happen more often?

If I belonged to the elite, then maybe yes. I don't belong to it. I don't think members of the elite have to worry about the things we're talking about in this forum much since they can isolate themselves from our daily grind. I've never seen one on my neighborhood's Publix for example.

I'm real particular where I park my car. Always an end spot with no parking spaces on one side. And always as far away from the adjoining spot as possible to give the car next to mine as much room as possible. As for parking way out, I've found that doesn't do any good as someone will always park next to you no matter how far away from your destination you park. Nothing p****S me off more than someone who opens their car door on someone else' car with no regard for the damage they do. I have never done it regardless of what's parked next to me.
