Why?

Sunday morning my wife was out for a 21 mile run (training for the NY marathon) and I decide to take the 911 out to meet her on the route and make sure she's ok. All is fine and I figure I'll stop at the grocery store on the way home to pick up breakfast for the kids (it's 7:30am at this point). The lot was fairly empty but I decide to park well away from anyone else (the closest open spot was probably 20 spots away from me in all directions).

I come out no more than 10 minutes later and find a large white Lincoln parked right next to me with their driver's side door opening towards my car. They parked right on the line. I didn't see any scratches (they must have gone out the passenger door) but I could barely open my door.

So, why? What on earth compels someone to be such an a$$hole? Is their life that boring that they have to screw with other people? Are they jealous?

I almost waited to see who it was and why they would do such a thing but realized that nothing good would come from it.

I just don't understand.

I know what you are saying, you here a number of comments towards Porsche owners being the A$$holes, but I find that when I drive my Porsche, it brings out the worst in other people. I guess it is one of the seven sins...envy

Keep your chin up, you could be driving the white Lincoln and not like people that drive a Porsche.

Happens to me all the time as well. People are just a$$holes and self-righteous that way. They are very insecure. Just be thankful they didn't have stupid offspring that flung open the doors.

This is why I have a beater car that I drive around in. I know that this can't be the answer, but ultimately it lowers my blood pressure.

Sorry to hear about your incident...and you're right to just leave the situation behind.

I think the shrinks might categorize that as a form of passive aggressive behavior. I call that unadulterated jealousy -- more to be pitied than censured.

There are still ***** out there that take that as an invitation to park close to you.

There was a thread about this kind of thing, titled along the lines of "hate towards P-cars." Some people are just insecure about somebody owning nicer stuff than them, or they think that YOU are being a jerk by parking in an isolated spot (such that everybody can see your car easily).

I remember reading one story where a guy drove his Ferrari to the mall and a beater truck parked right next to it (like really close). Somehow the Ferrari owner was able to drive off w/o a scratch, but he apparently deflated all the tires on the truck.

Hope he lived in a big city -- or was just visiting.

It's not a large white Lincoln, is it?

j/k

I would chalk it up to jealousy, pure and simple. Better to walk away from that situation; you never know what level of crazy you might have to deal with.

It's an odd behavior - I don't think it has anything to do with what type car you drive either. Some sort of weird social "parking-lot clumping" behavior, but I have noticed it for years in any car.

I would love to cut a psychologist loose with this one and hear an explanation.

My guess is you have somehow called attention to an area and it now becomes more desirable to park there. Perhaps the Porsche gives it even more cred, increasing the desirability? But I bet you try it with any other car and you can still get some sheep to follow your lead.

Something about folks in really big vehicles seems to correlate with an inability to park the vehicle centered between the lines. Its most frequently, in my experience, those big SUVs that park on or over parking lines.

I try, to put my drivers door where it opens over a grass space, green space, lamp post, something that would help prevent door opening issues.

that situation requires a valve core removal tool.

http://www.wescotools.com/p-5009-lis...tion-tool.aspx

remove the valve cores (takes about 5 seconds per tire) and they are instantly flat. No permanent damage done, the vavle cores cost about $.39 each and if you do two, it's pretty likely that a$$wipe is calling AAA or his wife.

a$$wipe "Honey, I need you to pick me up so we can run to Napa to get valve cores and a portable compressor"
Mrs. a$$wipe "were you being an a$$wipe again?"
a$$wipe "yep"

and yes, this is my first post here

That's fairly common here in Texasland. At the lovely malls we have here I park far, far away but somehow some fat *** truck loves to park nearby. One thing I learned, never, NEVER, park near where the carts are stored. People just shove them close to the spot and might hit your P-car "by mistake".

If one buys a P-car for the looks, I guess they should see that coming. For those who buy them for the drive, situations like this are extremely annoying. I'll bet that most of us prefer and empty curvy road with no cops to a "see and be seen" type of ride.

I feel your pain and stress. It happens to me all the time. I park at the end of the park lot and some jerk has to park right next to me? The other 50 spots that are closer just didn't work out for you? I don't mind it when they give me a parking spot in between because they're doing the same thing, but not right next to me in your beater.
