Cabrio top is slow to raise/lower ('05 997 Carrera S)
I just bought an '05 Carrera S Cabrio. Got it last week. Before I purchased, a P-inspector said the battery is on the weaker side. The first few times I raised and lowered the top, it seemed to stop a few times (intermittantly) before it completely buried or closed. It was almost like it was getting stuck on something...or lost momentum. I believe it gave a 'limit error, not in position'.... or something like that.
The car seems to start up fine ~ 1/2 the time, I haven't had the battery warning light, and none of the dash lights have been dim. Yesterday I purchased a trickle charger and connected it thru the cig lighter for 24 hours. This afternoon, I drove the car for ~2 hours..but the top still errored out again when I tried to close it. The top wouldn't raise on its own....I had to gently assist it, while my wife held the button.
Do you think this is just a weak battery?...or...something else? Anyone else have this issue? I'm bringing it in for service next week, but it would be good to hear about this from others before I have that first conversation with the service guy. I'm fully expecting to need a new battery.

Get it serviced. It shouldn't be giving you those errors. Something is out of adjustment. if in doubt about the battery, get it checked. You may need a new one, but I doubt it is the cause of your problems with the top.

Thanks. I had it checked out.
The left side piston for the top had been leaking, and there was no fluid left in the pump reservoir. Likely a busted O-ring or something was the culprit...but now the damage is done. Its a good day when the fixes are < $1000.
Using the battery maintainer and driving it a few times a week has seemed to have revived the battery capacity a bit. The car is starting up fine and no dim lights.....More importantly, I'm not worried about being stranded at work.
Still getting a hydrometer test the next time I bring it in.
