Question rpm moves up and down at ruing idle ( tiptronic )

Hey guys,

I am thinking to pick up an 05 Carrera 2 tiptronic, changed to techart cat back exhaust. I noticed the RPM moves up and down and the seats has rattle. Even I put it in neutral It feels my back shakes tiny bit. The car has 23000 miles on it. What seems the problem?!

When you say the RPM goes up and down some, how much are we talking about? I believe it's pretty normal for any car to have very slight variations in idling RPM, but anything over around perhaps 50RPM variation, I would start to worry. Likewise with the vibrations. These aren't luxury cars, so you aren't going to have a perfectly smooth idle, but you shouldn't need to get your fillings replaced after either.

If you're unsure about something, best thing to do is bring it by a dealership or your local shop and have them take a look. If you don't want to pay for their time, even just find another 05 C2S and sit in it and see if it feels and does the same thing.

i think it's more like 100rpm up and down. My 996 C2 had this problem. My Cayman S also had this problem when I change to an aftermarket exhaust.

Passenger seat rattle is normal .
Irregular RPM as you describe is NOT.

I don't know what it is but if a car has a red flag and you have not bought it why pursue it even further ?

i guess too bad i'm in HK now and not in states and I do not get a lot of options. I hate tiptronic but I have no choice. This is how it is oversea.
