What milage does you trip computer report just after startup?
Hi,
Subj - in that instant mode where it has no previous memory when you start the trip - forgot what exact option name is - not a continuous one and not a 'computer' one, probably 'since...' something. It generally shows nothing when you start driving after sitting in garage for a while.
I noticed that when I just start my car and drive off quite slowly in a minute or 2 the very first number is shows is 9 miles per gallon.
Does it all the time, just from a startup, apparently. If I reset it later on while driving it shows expected numbers - 17 mpg at 3K rpm, 20 or so mpg at 2-2.5K rpm, but as I mostly drive quite short trips lately my continuos mpg shifted into 14.5 area and got me wondering why because I do not rev engine very high on a street so I noticed this oddity.
Seems like a whole lot of gas gets consumed in several first minutes of driving or during startup, not sure why. Is it something common?

It seems the lowest number the computer will display is 9 mpg. Obviously, if you sit idling for 15 minutes, the mileage should be 0. So I have to assume the computer waits for the calculated mileage to achieve 9 before it starts displaying new numbers. I think 14 mpg is not unusual for short runs in city traffic, regardless of whether you rev the engine or not.
