Dension 500 Installed and Having Config Issues

I had a Dension 500 dual FOT iPod adapter installed in my 2008 Carrera S Cabriolet. There is no CD changer in the car, just a nav uniit, and the install was done at the local dealer. They did a really neat install, but I could not get the CD titles and tracks to display--not sure they had any experience with this product. In trying to configure this sucker myself at home from findings on the web I have managed to actually stop it from playing music off the iPod. I cannot even figure out how or what I changed.

The directions on set up that come with the Dension are woefully lacking in detail about such stuff--really weak. Also, there is a convoluted knowledge base on the Dension website that is even more daunting than the configuration itself.

Does anybody have any experience with setting up a Dension 500 in Carrera that does not have the factory CD changer installed? The dealer did the necessary PCM software upgrade to have the head unit see a CD changer, therefore the Dension unit. This is so frustrating and expensive.

Help in locating a person or audio installer in the Nasvhille, TN area would be greatly appreciated.

Use the search.
What I remember is turn accessory pod switch off and on 3 times to get to cfig and use FF to get to cash+ ,hold ff button to turn on. then turn off car and allow PCM to reset.
Check for software updates.
sorry, it's been a while!

Eric at BumperPlugs.com is a Dension guru who distributes the product.
He is very experienced and helpful. I assume you didn't buy the product from him but I would suspect he would help you if you're still in dire straits.

Thanks

I did not know there was a US-side distributor. Wish I had. Sometimes Internet searches send you in the wrong direction.

I contacted Eric at BumperPlugs.com and he is absolutely great. He offered instructions on how to configure, upgrade firmware, and more help if needed. I am going to buy the Dension Bluetooth device to add on as partial repayment to him for his assistance. Thanks for pointing me in right direction.

Let us know if/how you resolved your issues.
iPod interface is a must if you're into music.
I have about 6700, mostly jazz, latin and
a smattering of country.

Thanks bolobar for the assist. I took the information from Eric home last evening and reconfigured the Dension. It works beatuifully now. I have to say that Eric and BumperPlugs.com are some of the finest folks around. I am going to put their stuff up on our local Porshce club Google group here in Nashville with a strong recommendation. And, I am ordering the Bluetooth unit for the Dnsion today.

Again, thanks.

For Flying Cat

I tried to respond earlier, but for some reason you need 15 posts to be permitted to respond to a private request--go figure. I hope this gets to you.

Eric Sklut at http://bumperplugs.com helped me bunches after I bought my Dension from another site...Enfig. Eric is the official US distributor and is absolutely the greatest. He will help you regardless where you got your unit. I can't say enough kind things...I did buy the Bluetooth adaptor from him, but have not yet had the dealer install it.

First, get your Dension into set up mode by being sure you select "Audio" on the PCM unit inside. Then toggle the setup switch on the Dension up and down a total of three cycles. That gives you the screwy code on the display that you need. My iPod and Dension are in the trunk where the changer would be.

Be sure you select CD # 6, Dension uses the CD selections on the changer as controllers for different functions (you've fooled the head unit in to thinking the Dension is a CD changer at this point). CD # 6 is the set up selection.

I think you select source directly from the menu at this point by using the **** on the lower right-hand side of the unit--opposite the volume ****.

Use select by pushing in and set the source to iPodGW. Your setting is probably showing iPodUI now, meaning you are controlling the selections directly from the iPod. iPodGW means you are contolling the iPod from the PCM, not the iPod itself.

Once that is set, confirm your selection by holding the FF button on the control panel (number keypad, ff, rev, etc.) for 8 to 10 seconds. Eric said this is where most folks go wrong.

I didn't do anything after that except shut off everything, turn it all back on and it worked like gangbusters.

If you have more problems, email Eric at the address on his site. He really is great.
