High Road to Taos

High Road to Taos
Living in Santa Fe, NM we have some pretty spectacular drives right in our back yard. My Dad drove in to town for the week-end and I was able to escape for a few hours Sunday afternoon. 67 - 75 degrees, Not a cloud in the sky, top down, full tank of gas, and a beautful highway known locally as "The High Road to Taos." Started out in Santa Fe high desert terrain, drove up through Nambe, and then into the mountains and up to Truchas (where they filmed Milagro beanfield War), through Picuris Pueblo, Penasco, and then back down through Dixon, Embudo, and Espanola on the main road. An unbelievably beautiful day that I know my Dad and I will always remember.
And now, back to the grind!

Mine, a 2008 911 Cab. I've discussed a possible purchase with him for years and finally took the step a couple months ago. Even though he supported the decision because I've always wanted one, and the time was right (with the deals this summer), I don't think he understood viscerally until now. At 72 years old I made a convert out of him. Had to go a little easy on the ol' boy though, due to his heart condition!

The High Road will be beautiful that time of year. The road should be clear unless it is actively snowing, which is not out of the question, but the mountains around you will almost certainly still be snow-capped. I think Taos Mountain closes down every year about Easter. Hope you have a great trip.
