Plastic rock guards on back wheel frame

Plastic rock guards on back wheel frame
I have a 2006 Carrera that has the transparent plastic guards located on the frame of the car, just outside the wheel well. They are there to prevent rocks/sand/etc from chipping the paint.
Any advice on how to remove them? Is it a bad idea? They've become weathered and rather unsightly relative to the rest of the car..
Thank you,
Greg

Different Porsche of focus, but the instructions should be applicable.

If you are nervous about going the DIY route, take your car to the best clear bra installer in your market and have them replace the rock shields with a slightly heavier mil of the same material they use for front end protection.
My clear bra installer (TVP in Morrisville, NC) offered to do this when he did the front end of my car. He said the material he uses would offer the same protection, but be less noticeable.
I figured I'd wait until mine became discolored like yours have become.
Good luck.........shouldn't be a big deal or particularly expensive.

Like clear bra, they can be removed by taking an edge and spraying soapy water underneath as you peel it back. My installer noted that you slowly pull the edge directly back in direction of pull so that it isn't lifting. Be sure to put new ones on, either from a clear bra supplier or by purchasing replacements at dealer. Without them your fender will get blasted with grit and the paint will be chipped.

Just pick at one corner and start pulling slowly. If you are pulling the factory pieces off due to it beginning to show signs of wear, it is still recommended to have it replaced. Porsche placed these two pieces in those areas for a very specific reason. They know this area will see quite a bit of rock chips over time since it is flared out.
If you are not comfortable with doing this yourself or if you would like it replaced, give us a call (since you are in Norcal).

You want clear protection in those areas or chips will come out of your paint instead of the clear protection.
Replacement is the way to go if significant damage. Yellowing can often be improved with light compound.

Tough to say. They might. However, it is naturally yellow because of the thickness of the product. The thicker the clear material the yellower it is from the start. The factory pieces show up the most on white vehicles.

New rock guards installed - look/work great
Thanks for the recommendations of the folks on this thread.
I took my car to Premier Protective in Fremont and had them swap out my older, faded plastic rock guards on the rear wheel section.
The results could not be better. They look nearly invisible now. The whole process took about 1 hour. Highly recommended.
