still trying to find the right car... thoughts please?
my journey to find my car keeps me interested... I've started to think of it as my new hobby... last weekend, went and checked out a 2005 C2S where owner was asking mid 50's (smokin crack in my opinion). Wouldn't budge on price so I walked.
I've been keeping tabs on this car, which I haven't seen in person yet. Originally, it was listed at around $59K. At that price, I didn't even waste my time. Recently they just dropped the price, although it's still too high.

From what I can tell, the car has very minimal options. My benchmark is the car I was supposed to buy (long story), which was $47.5K. That car had Nav, sport adaptive, etc. This car has almost nothing. I emailed BH Porsche and said I would buy this car for $47.5K, since it has a cPo... In the pics it also looks like it has new tires (probably had to b/c of the cpo)... My guess is they are going to tell me to pound salt. At that time, I am just going to walk. Am I being unreasonable? My next step is to go see the actual car, incognito... and also wait for their answer.

If you are interested about 45 days ago I traded in my 2007 Blk/blk Carrera S to Rusnak in Pasadena. It was loaded with power leather seats, navigation, bose, sport exhaust, thick steering wheel, door sills, dimming mirrors, and some other small options I do not recall now. It has the Carrera Sport wheels, and the rear tires were three months old because I got a nail in one and they insisted I replace both rear tires? The car had 14k miles on it and was never scratched, painted, etc. I was there about two weeks ago and it was on the showroom floor. Good luck in your search.

I noticed a large absence of used car posts . There's a lot of reasons in my opinion. Yesterday I looked at the used car listings in my region and pulled up 75 cars on auto trader (05-07) . Many of the cars were listed MONTHS ago and still haven't sold and one would think that after 5 or 6 months it would dawn on the person that his car is priced out of the market. Most of the asking prices are even higher than they were a year ago . In fact some of the forum members who bought cars during the used car price drop of last year could sell the car near for what they paid . In some cases even the same and in the rare case even higher.
The 05 cars have no warranty and if they have CPO it costs more to buy it . The mileage is often higher and the extended warranty is questionable.
Sooooo.. I looked at 996 Turbo prices and that's where I would shop if looking in this market if a Porsche 911 is the priority .
In fact this one looked real nice . http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=269909364&dealer_id=64702691&c ar_year=2003&rdm=1257568339623&lastStartYear=1981& model=911TURBO&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&high lightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=2002&keywordsfyc=& keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=& awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=25&marketZipE rror=false&search_lang=en&sownerid=57876696&showZi pError=y&make=POR&keywords_display=&color=&page_lo cation=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&driv e=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileag e=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=33146& advanced=&end_year=2005&doors=&transmission=&max_p rice=&cardist=4&standard=false
BTW -- months ago 997 Turbo prices and 996 Turbo prices were a lot lower too than they are now. Good news for the seller but not so good for the shopper.

I really can't go with you on this one. The 997 has clear resale advantages over the 996. Due to features like headlights, hips, ****pit space, etc., the porsche community will continue to favor 993's and 997's.
My take is get into any 997 S that meets your criteria. Inventory is a little light and sellers are not as motivated as they were Q1, but that just means you need to be a little more patient.
My take is stick with the 997

If the used prices were comparable to last years market then an 08 with Under 10 k miles would be selling in the 50's and that's just not the case .. not even close . Instead buyers are seeing 05 and 06 cars with 30K miles near that price many of which have minimal or no warranty . When he finally finds an 08 with low miles asking prices are in the high 60's and even low 70's and that's just too close to new 09 discount prices .
The same will occur with new cars . If a 100K car was selling for 80K last month but now it's 90 .. the buyer will walk.
In my opinion the entire market has priced itself out and that's why we don't get to read the same volume of used car posts and even the new car owners are slowing down as the 2010 models are not yet getting the same discounts as the 09's were . The dealerships have an entire year to sell those 2010 cars and the used cars sitting idle for months can sit longer .
No car is worth overpaying .

Find me even ONE 07 in the low 50's (asking mid to high 50's) with under 15K miles, CPO , reliable, and no paint or gaps with some nice options , clean DME and a pampered history and I'd say buy it .
