997.1 6speed S cabriolet- how desireable is sport chrono?
#2
It's a debate topic . I personally love the sport chrono even on a manual car . It gives an edgy throttle response which i find appealing and I happen to think it looks cool too.

Makes a nice difference in throttle response, especially if you enjoy downshifting. Best to drive a car with it and then drive a car without the option. That's how I knew I had to have it.

I don't consider it to be an important option. The whole timer setup is a waste of time IMHO due to its complexity. So the only other feature is the re-mapped throttle which I never found that useful or necessary. Sport Chrono is one of the first options I could do without, followed by the Nav system.

I have the SC option, and my friend has a C2S w/no SC but he installed the Sprint Booster and i can't tell the difference in throttle response between the two, so you can always get the SC throttle response w/either a sprint booster or something like the Softronic ECU....But it's not something i will look for in my next car unless I'm buying a PDK (gotta have the launch control)
That said, the SC stopwatch on the dash is a great conversation piece......

I have the same car and rarely engage sport mode. The throttle mapping feels somewhat artificial to me as it does not improve sprint times at all, and therefore only seems to make the car "jumpy." That being said, I think it is a desirable option for resale.

I have SC on my C2S and like it. The timer portion is silly, but it does look cool. Kind of reminds me of the 70's muscle cars with a tach on the dash. Buying a used one, I would look for it. Buying a new one, I'd probably invest in other options unless money was no object.

I actually quite like it on both of my cars, its oem, it looks good, whats not to like besides, get the sprint booster for your pedal, you will see a huge difference on throttle response, I'm sure it will make a difference if you track your car.

btw, I enable the sport option if I wanna hear more of my exhaust, but still disable the suspension (roads are tough) but still, the gears seem to go down on the first when you are slowing down or stuck in traffic, which I dont prefer, tiptronic normal ride is much smoother.
