anyone know what this noise is..update?
anyone know what this noise is?
a few weeks ago I just purchased my 997.2 C4S PKK plus sports chrono.
For the past 2-3 weeks I reverse my car into my parking space now and the strange thing is that after i park it overnight and drive out there is this weird thing happening.
First, as i try to drive forward out....the car feels like its caught on something and does not move when i depress the pedal...then as i depress the pedal slightly more...i hear a loud cranking noise and then i feel a Release as i drive forward.
im not absolutely sure... but if AFTER reverse parking i drive forward a little before turning the car off ..the next day the car doesnt produce that noise and catch as i drive out.
Strangely , when i reverse into parallel park on the streets or park anywhere else it doesnt do anything...although it doesnt sit overnight on the street.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the car being towed a few weeks ago also.
does this make sense to anyone?
(update: most ppl got it right .....im pretty sure its the brake pads)

This is JUST a guess BUT..I see you live in Canada!
So my question is.....
Is this happening only when you drive the car in the rain,if so then it is the brake rotors getting rusty overnight and it does take a bit of effort for them to release upon your first 'go' in the morning.
By the time I dry my car off after washing it...the rotors already have a rusty color!
if this is it,no biggie!

Another excellent insight..perhaps ill try parking in the stall next to it and see what happens (i usually park the 997 in the larger stall)

My guess is the same as that noted by Stacy. In fact, I experience the same thing that you describe every morning, but it’s just as Stacy communicated.
Every evening when I bring my car in for the night, I spray ONR on my wheels and wipe them down. This makes the wheels super clean, but the ONR residue leaves a layer of rust on the rotors. The rust, of course, disappears, but only after applying the brakes when I get back on the road the following morning. After sitting through the night, though, the car’s wheels do have a subtle feeling of being locked, typically accompanied by a slight click, on the initial move.
If this is what you are experiencing, then you have no worries.

strange thing is that it happens intermittently also and only when i park in that one spot overnight..leaving me to think now that it prob nothing serious.
after the replies so far:
1) i will see what happens after i drive it and park it when it is not raining..which has not happened here in 4 weeks ...so might be a long wait.
2) i will switch the parking spots with my other car in case it has to do with some sloping of the parking stall.
thanks for far!

No---subtle only. I'd experiment a bit, just as you plan. Then, if no resolution, a trip to the dealer would seem to be in order.
Best of luck.

that is reassuring but i would have to say the the resistance i experience initially is not subtle at all..ie little pressure on the gas that would normally have the car move forward but results in no advancement now....more pressure on the pedal...give a loud cranking type noise.....is this what you experienced?

Once the rotors have gotten wet,it does take a bit of throttle to make them release and it is quite loud followed by a bit of a grinding sound........until the fine layer of rust is gone.

This happens with my car whenever it's left to sit overnight after driving it in the rain. I believe it's related to the brake pads you might be using, too. I've noticed on my car that different pads behave differently after sitting overnight after getting the rotors, etc. wet.

Re brakes: the disk brakes are not applied when the parking brake is on. The parking brake is a drum brake inside the rear wheels hubs. Thus I do not think the OP is hearing stuck disk pads.

ok...ive tested the car under two situations.
First, its been raining everyday for the past week...i parked the car in my smaller stall next to my original stall. No problems all week. I was able to start the car moving forward without the resistance and noise.
Yesterday, parked it back in the original stall...
AGAIN...when i started to move the car...loud cranking/scraping sounds...resistance..then pressed the pedal more to get through it.
So....it must have to do with the Parking Stall!!! (BikerDude...may be right that the stall may be sloped and the Drive Assist is doing it)
i took a look but i can NOT obviiously see any irregularity or sloping in the stall.
So..ill just park it in the smaller stall from now on.
But what could this noise be and why?
