We always recommend that clients get their oil tested by blackstone, we do it to our shop cars, to our race cars and to our clients car that get the oil changed here. Even the cars that see significant track time really dont have issue with unnatural wear.

Some of the early 996 M96 motors were prone to failure regardless of adding FI. It is extremely rare for us to see the failures in a stock car and let alone one that has our added FI systems. Some of the caymans that are being tracked with the M97 block have had issues with oil starvation in long high G turns... Our oil feed for the turbo actually helps in getting oil to the Pass side head which is great help for the issue. We employ the same tech in the 996/997 system.

Casey -

I've been following this thread and am excited to think of the potential of adding FI to my 3.6 997.

To try to bring a little more clarity regarding any reliability impact would you share the number, if any, of engine failures after adding your FI system please? This may help some of us better understand.

Old timers like me remember when adding FI to non-FI engines would often lead to very short engine life. This was back in the 80's - 90's. Clearly TPC is no backyard shop and you all are very comitted to delivering a reliable product.

Thanks

Matt (in MA)

As a direct result from our turbo system we have never seen a failure. As i said, the early M96s suffered from dropping cylinder sleeves, it is not a result of our system. We have also seen M96s with cracked cylinder heads... saw these in both FI and non-FI cars... So we cant say the system has ever blown up an engine. We run extremely low boost pressures <6psi, our ignition timing is also extremely conservative with fuel mixture on the richer side, we have done everything possible to ensure engine reliability... We give clients the ability to adjust boost levels(as an option) and we dont recommend running over 7psi as the engines are not designed for that. People on this forum run kits well over 7psi and have seen no issues.

We test our products with hundreds of dyno runs, track time and many miles of daily driving...

We have clients with over 50k miles on our 987 turbo system without hiccups... Our Red Cayman turbo had over 120 track sessions with every oil change documented and run by blackstone without an issue.

Thanks very much for your detailed response. This is what differentiates TPC from other companies, your willingness to be open, candid and customer focused (and I'm not even a customer... yet ).

TPC seems to have a really good track record for reliability. I look forward to hearing more about this new system, especially with regard to a 3.6 997.

Keep us posted!

Best,

Matt (in MA)

Got some of our polished production pieces back... roughly what the system looks like out of the car...

A while ago we had a lot of questions about the catalyst used in the car... Here you can see a picture of what the scope sees just before the muffler, the Cat! In order to save space we have integrated the cat into the muffler section. These are not final production pieces, just pretty close!

The car was back on the dyno today for more tuning.

by the way, my legs/chucks and Josh's hand.

What a beautiful system! Great idea with that Catalyst inclusion. Hoping to get one soon after you're done with the tuning and final fitment.

very happy to keep everyone as educated as possible. It is important that we show the knowledge that we have gained through decades of adding FI to Porsche cars.

If you want a supercharger I can still sell them... But we feel this system is going to be future of adding FI to NA Porsches.
