Dislikes: (a) cheap turn signal lever and (b) cheap shift ****. Really expected more out of a car with such MSRP.

I am happy otherwise.

P.S. Also thicker steering wheel wouldn't suck but I realize the need to keep all those dials exposed. Oh well, can't have all of it at once!

For what it's worth....

Likes
  • Lines of the car - wide bottom
  • Silky shifting
  • Smooth power curve - just keeps pulling and pulling
  • Engine sound
  • Ride is relatively quite for a sports car
  • Endless options to personalize - OEM and aftermarket
  • The excitement I feel every time I get in it
Dislikes (picky stuff)
  • Multi-function steering wheel should be standard
  • Full leather should be standard
  • Uses up tires (rear) fast

Your thoughts on gated vs ungated? I believe the Audi R8's transmission is gated, for example.

I have never had an accidental downshift in my Porsche but I know it can happen . In fact I almost had one in my PDK BUT the PDK ignored my error command and that's actually one of the great aspects of PDK -no over rev possible.

I wonder if a gated box might effect the smooth transition of gear shift . I even find a sport shift makes it more firm and I happen to like it but like that the motion is stil not restricted. In the Cup car Porscxhe has this sequential gearshift . I have never driven it but that sounds like an option which would eliminate error shifts as there are only two choices .

What I like aboiut the 997S is the clutch feel and box smoothness . In fact it was one of the things I disliked greatly in the Turbo (came with power assist clutch) and even moreso in the M3 (ill positioned gear lever and wide spaced awkward shifts).

You ought to try one. It's not by accident that the box is called the 'crash tranny'.

- too many to list

Dislikes
- Way too much plastic/subpar interior for a $100K car. Full leather should be standard.
- Needs separate lock/unlock buttons on key plus horn beep.
- Options are way too expensive.
- Exhaust note is too plain and quiet. Sounds like a lawnmower.

A 911 is all about a compact, lithe, short-wheel-based all-in-the-rear coupe. When i hear it needs more power, larger back seats, turn-signal lever is not refined, sound system concerns, tough to get in/out, and so on... those people should be looking for another car.

That is my only want of the ones you mentioned. You can never have enough power...the car can certainly handle it so why not.

You can always have more power, but do you need it? Is the current power not enough? And if you have more power can you maintain traction or just spin it out? Peak power only has meaning in terms of Vmax - not very important. Torque is important, but isn't current torque enough? If you need more you can always re-gear your manual tranny. The power/weight ratio of the 997.2S is quite good. If anything I lighten it, as I did - manual seats, no Bose, no added weight.

honestly, the thing that I like most .. the big a$$ smile I get driving to work every day even though it's a grueling long drive sometimes. I'm not even in a rush to go anywhere now days, not like any previous sports car I've ever driven, where the rush came from just going faster and faster. I don't know how to describe it, but this is the first car I've ever owned where I don't actually speed 100% of the time (it's down to like 55% or so now..)

only two dislikes for me ..

- I hate rattles of any sort, even if that's the price you pay to be in this car
- I am not a big fan of any of my fellow Porsche drivers in the bay area, as I have yet to see a single one that will as much as wave at you as you pass by. I'd say the community here is excellent, the community on the road in my area is something else. Maybe I'll try PCA locally though .

I absolutely love my C4S with PDK, but as mdrums suggests, if Porsche could supply the GT3 with PDK, it would be the best car in the world, period !
i also want a GT3 in PDK but the GT3 engine is still the old engine in 2010 models and the pdk tranny cannot mate up.. so will not happen :-(
