Things you like and dislike with your Porsche

Hi there! We know each other and I can see an exception when I see one.
The point I am trying to make is that some of us - the core 911 fans I call it - actually like its handling and do not find it at fault. I like the Cayman/Boxster and know how balanced it is but I still prefer the 911 handling. I do prefer its pendulum dynamic - and the 997 has that very tamed. And BTW... as balanced as a mid-engine can be, it has its limits, and when those are reached... all bets are off.
What I hear is that some people have the 911 for its image/looks despite considering it less good handling-wise. I think it would be more honest to come out and say that they do not like the 911 dynamics but they like its looks/image.

Wanting a car to be improved further is not being a poser I am really young, and I wasn't even there when Porsche was found... But I have loved Porsches ever since, so just because I didn't drive the older 911s doesn't mean I don't know what the "core" is. I track my car, I love how my car drives.
To improve the weight distribution I took the rear seats off and switched to a lighter exhaust. I guess that makes me a poser as well...

Likes:
Rock solid stiffness, performance, styling, ability to configure almost how I want it.
Dislikes:
That the passengers window isn't one touch close from fully open.
That the Targa roof isn't one touch close.
That the windows and roof cannot be opened by remote (to pre-ventilate the car on a hot day).
That a flat-bottomed thicker-sports steering wheel was not available for 6spd cars.
That there is no emergency wheel mounting rack that can be attached to the rear deck lid.
That the leather on the outer seat bolsters still wears out so easily and isn't easily replaced as a component.
That I have to click on a lawyer screen every time I bring up my map/nav system display the first time after starting the car.
That I could not specify the color of the accent roof line arcs on the Targa.

My 1996 Targa has a one touch open & close (i can also stop it at any time)
Interesting this didn't make it way thru the models. I wonder if it's the same on the 996

Exhaust doesn't constitute bragging rights...just the view I get in my rear view mirror.

it was on all cars like this, apparently until some drunk or stupid teen got his neck stuck in the closing sunroof...

[quote=simsgw;2635583] We've been around too many loud airplanes and cars for too many decades to want a loud exhaust all the time. quote]
If I meant loud I would have said loud. I guess aggressive was interpreted as loud. How about a different tone to the exhaust.

Wow, long thread, I got here too late! It's funny to think of a stroll through memory lane with Porsche. There have been many worries that the VW acquisition will ruin the mark. Well, there have been plenty of VW/Porsches already through time and Porsche has created many poseur mobiles already. Many don't remember the 924. Or even the 914 1.8. Or, my favorite, the 912 (the 911 with the 4 cylinder engine so you can tell your friends you own a "911"). Porscshe has done everything they can to improve the car yet appeal to their audience. And in the meantime tends to foray into some wierd offerings. Ever driven a 928? I have. I've been in them all. From 914s, 911SCs, 944, 928, 930, 912, 924, all of them. I've gotta say that the 997 is really the fastest most refined offering they've made. That's why I bought one. Anyway, here are my gripes:
The Porsche community is much more enthusiastic than the BMW community ever was!
- Wimpiest steering wheel I've ever seen in a modern sports car. An easy swap though and mine's been replaced.
- Tricky handling that takes some learning. 6speed has helped me and now I understand slow in and fast out. The car can really fly out of corners.
- The sound the doors make when they close. The just don't have a nice click the way earlier generations did.
- The sport adaptive seats have really narrow bottoms. I'm not a big guy and the seats are tight. I've gotten used to it and I think they are adapting to me! Heck, I weight 170, I don't know how comfortable they would be for anyone over 200.

Every few months treat the seats with Lexol or whatever leather stuff turns you on.

This too can be added with the Remote Key www.mods4cars.com
Is there a place to get this done in Vancouver?

I bought mine on line, and installed it myself. If you don't want to DIY, you could get a stereo store or a reputable shop to install it.

ok thx..may consider that if not too complicated.

LOL, when it involves electrical systems on an expensive car, they are both for after the job is done.
