I have a MY 2005 997S this weekend while starting aggressively at the red light i must have over slipped the clutch and something broke, I think. The pedal is now much easier to push and the bite point is a inch higher.
I am trying to figure out what exactly could have broken and if need a flywheel on top of a new clutch.

What do you guys think ?

 

Sounds like you may have glazed the clutch. Keep driving it normally for a while. The pedal feel may start to return, but if not, you may be in need of a new clutch.

Did you actually hear something brake or does it just feel to you like something is broken because it does not grip the same?

I had a similar experience not long time ago, I left my car to get washed at a car wash and realized the clutch was not gripping the same as before and it also felt a little softer. I only had 6k miles on the car so I got really paranoid and went to the dealership to get it checked out. Turns out they wore out the clutch a little bit but there was nothing wrong with the car...

It now is harder for me to lift off on a ramp; besides that it feels weirder than when I first got the car but it is fine according to the dealership...

Get it checked out at the dealership!

 

sounds like the exact same situation i was in, the only way to tell if u need a new flywheel is to have it opened up and checked. i had a very light push down on the peddle, and a slipping clutch.. i replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout barring, came out to very cheap like 650 shipped around there not to sure exactly..

That's the tough question. How do you do that? Does it require tranquilizers to leave a 997 with a car wash? I can barely bring myself to let a detailer wash our cars without moving them. I always worry about things like "What if he forgets to take off his belt before starting work?" "What if he isn't wearing rubber soles, slips and lets his weight come down on our car's aluminum?" "What if..." What if I need therapy...

I broke the synchronized bolts on my 1983 SC when I first got it. I was very young and didnt understand that you shouldnt try to POP the clutch at a stop sign. I have to go to a local ahrdware store and buy new bolts and torq them correctly. I never did that again but I dont think the newers cars have the same setup. If you broke those bolts you would know ASAP.

 

thanks for the update guys. I think its very bad case of glazing because I heard nothing break and their is absolutely no chatter. Only the pedal is 50% softer and I have slipage in high gear. I have an appointement to get a new clutch on monday morning. So unless it get "fixed" miraculously I be in for a new clutch....

+1 I am at the stage of not caring who drives it. It is a car, it can be fixed, or even better, replaced with another one (GT3)

 

No therapy needed. You are not sick. You just realize that service people have no pride and if they make a mistake... it's just an 'accident' or so they justify their carelessness.

I wash and detail my car.

 

update for you guys, issue was a cracked / bent pressure plate.

 

Ouch! Either a fluke or abuse. you probably need a new clutch too.

 

+1 on Ouch! Even if you don't need a new clutch the labor cost of replacing the pressure plate will be the same as replacing the whole unit...

Did they say you can drive it like this for a while, or you need to change it immediately?

I see a new sport clutch and LW Flywheel on the horizon...

 

But... light sport clutches are not designed for red light antics.
