PCM 3 - iPhone/iPod interface quirks

In my 997.2 S I have both Bluetooth and the iPod Audio Interface.

My iPhone works fine with Bluetooth. My iPod or iPhone work fine via the iPod interface (using the new Y-cable which requires both the iPod and USB connectors plugged-in to charge the device).

However, when the iPhone is connected through the iPod connector it ceases to work via bluetooth (going into airport mode) and says so on a warning message. I find that odd, as one can use an iPhone to play music while the phone remains active making/taking phone calls. What is your experience with this? Is this also the case on other makes offering Bluetooth and iPod connectivity?

Interesting about the charging. I had my little Nano (the short video one) plugged in and the battery eventually died. I'll plug the USB in also nex time. (I wish the PCM had the same exact selections as the NANO does for Album, Artist....etc)

GOOD INFO!

Adias. I did, and like my Vision (motorcycle) interface, it did not like it. I was thinking the same as most (well I think), heck, have all the music stored on there and keep the phone charged at the same time.

Are you confirming what I found? That is, when you connected the iPhone to the IPod port, the iPhone phone function was turned off.

here's what's going on: as of the original iPhone apple changed the voltage for charging from 12v (FireWire) to 5v (USB). Porsche have not updated their PCM for this. So if you plug in a later model iPod or iPhone it will not charge through the iPod connector but it will play music through it. If you have an iPhone it will go into airport mode. If you have the later design cable then the USB part if it is what charges you phone or iPod.

Right. I have the new Y-cable an the iPhone (latest 3GS) charges and plays music, but, as you say it goes into airport mode and that is the odd part, don't you think?

It sounds as if you have to use the bluetooth for the phone to work and the music will play through the interface.
I hope you can get it resolved.

That is correct and I think that this is as it is designed. To me it does not matter - I have a dedicated iPhone for music playing.

I don't have that Y connector. What is it and where do you get it?

My 997.2 has the single cable that I plug into the iPhone. I'm able to use the iPod and Bluetooth together, but not charge.

Whenever I plug it in, the iPhone says that "this accessory is not compatible with the iPhone" blah blah blah and charging is not possible and it is recommended to use Airplane mode giving me two options to press "Yes" and "no"... I select "no" to decline to go into Airplane mode. It works fine when I do that, or leave it alone not selecting anything and it will still work fine.

Thanks for your feedback. You think that you have nailed it!

Your dealer should have the Y-cable, if not Suncoast or Sunset has it - SEE HERE. One connector connects to the iPod port and the other to the USB port. With both connectors plugged-in the iPhone will charge.

It is interesting what you say. I saw that warning window and assumed that it would only work in airport mode and I did not cancel the warning. So can you confirm... if you cancel the warning, it will provide iPod connectivity and bluetooth phone connectivity?

I can confirm that in my 997.2 with both audio and bluetooth and the new 'Y' cable, both iPod and Bluetooth work whether or not I hit 'cancel' on the annoying popup...

In the beginning, I used to religiously select 'cancel' on the popup but these days I just plug the phone in and close the lid before I see the message :-)

I wonder if there is some setting somewhere in the iPhone to change the default action when you dont select an answer to the annoying popup???

I can second that, but with the standard connector. I just plug it in and close the lid, iPod and BT will work together.

I get the same message and I respond by clicking on "NO". It works fine with bluetooth and audio.... It will not charge the iphone until I connect the convertor...

Thanks for the feedback. Someone at rennlist also confirms that the same 'airport mode' warning pops up in BMWs and Lexus. It must be then some Apple quirk in the software interface. Good to know.
