I just drove this weekend in NJ during the snow storm on high performance summer tires.

Let me tell ya, having your steering suddenly loosening up at highway speeds is a bit scary lol.

Before it snowed here I was already having issues, going into a traffic circle at 40 mph on the inside lane would result me under steering or slide out to the outside lane, so I just drive on the outside lane and cut in when I go in the circle now.

I don't even like to drive my cars in the rain . I believe snow tires woukd help in the snow but that's not to say that on dry cold surface they might not peform as well .
It also does not account for all the other cars who lack them and may spin out OR the other drivers who can't even drive properly when it's a beautiful day much less when another obstacle (snow) is added .

I saw all the news footage of the various regions facing snow and I am very glad I don't have to drive my Porsche in those conditions . Today was 82 and sunny here and the rest of the week we are set for record high temps (mid 80's) . Maybe one day 6speed will do some type of Florida winter retreat event.

OP - seriously, get the winter tires on. We already got some ice/snow this past weekend. Your car will be useless without them when the roads get icy/snow. I've lived in the area my whole life and trust me, you don't want to drive your p-car when the white stuff hits.

You have to change your tires!!

Quick story....in 1999 I had a 911 2 wheel drive and it started to snow and I was almost home. I was making a left hand turn onto my street going maybe 10 or 15 mph and the car didn't turn!! It kept going straight and stopped within maybe 12 inches of a telephone pole.

Traded the car in the next week for a 4 wheel drive and it's been that way ever since and always 4 snows! I live in NJ too and you don't want to put that gorgeous car at risk....do you?

Best regards,

Tom

Put the Winters on! I daily drive a C4S in the NY Metro area and was shocked when my PS2s first slipped like hockey pucks at the start of my first winter.

The reason why I ask is because I got different suggestion. Even the salesman told me it is not necessary. I am in NJ so the really cold time probably is from now till mid or end March. Beside the extra dollars I have to spend, I have to find space for storage and time to change the tire. If I don't have to, I rather not. Of course I believe it is sure better with the winter tire for the winter.
SCal and Florida members are welcome.
Have gotten stuck TWICE on the GSP with previous car and ever since have gotten a winter tire package. They come balanced and ready for install from tire rack or look on ebay. Best money you will spend and as a bonus your summer tires will last longer.

I leave mine on, but then again I dont plan on driving my car through the winter. I backed her out into the street with our first snow last saturday with only about 2-3 inches on the ground and it was definitely going to be a disaster so I put her right back in the garage.

We hear this all the time, and find it very dis-heartening that a salesman will put the possibility of losing a sale above a customer's safety. It's PURE disinformation to tell you the tires these cars come with are fine for all season driving. If he does not know the difference in the traction level it makes to have snow tires on these cars, then he has no business selling them - especially in NJ.

Snow tires are not an option in that climate if you plan to drive the car between Thanksgiving and Easter. If you don't want the expense or hassle, then park it. Please call me before you hurt yourself or someone else.

Hello Damon,

I bought the winter setup from you couple of weeks ago and it made my C4S a pleasure to drive in the snow. I have a question, What is the different between the 2 Michelin Alpin PA2, regular price and sale price ones? I bought the one that was on sale. I did have one issue with the guys who mounted the tires. They put a couple of small nicks in the wheels during mounting. Since it was inexpensive wheels for winter I didn't make an issue of it. However I would be pissed if this happen to the new summer wheels.

Damon,

I opened up one of the four tires yesterday and saw a number of nicks on the lip of the rim (inner side of the rim). It is almost a long numerous scrapes. I haven't opened up the other three wheels. I will check later today.
