I know this is the 997 forum but I've never owned a Porsche. Cars I'm looking at for DD 2006 CLS-55 2007 M6 CONVERT 2006 Aston Vantage or 2006 Porsche 911 CS4. I need a DD with only a functional back seat for a six year old. I drive 20-25 miles daily. The Lamborghini G is my weekend car.

997...I had an M6. Gas hog and a cruiser. The M button allows for 10 MPG and not much fun especially on curvy roads. 997, planted on all 4's and a great driver!

 

I found a nice 06 C4 vert with only 10k for $57,000 seem fair? What are some easy mods to do?

 

All very nice cars and it mostly comes down to personal taste and the joy you find in it, but if it helps I just went through the decision process after our NSX was wrecked by the dealer taking it in for service. I seriously considered a low-mileage used NSX since they're not making them anymore, but since the NSX was Cindy's car, that might have felt like competing with her dream car, so instead we went shopping.

I considered the Vantage and a new M5 (since convertibles are not easily used in our desert town), a CLS-55 and a new E550 Mercedes. All good cars to own, but our taste led us to a new Porsche. These things are relative. Your mileage will vary, but one observation: If you're serious that you have a Gallardo for weekends, you're used to high-maintenance toys, but do you really want another serious sports car like the Carrera for your daily driver? And with a Gallardo in the garage, would you ever be tempted on a fine day to drive the M6 top down instead? Just suggesting you ask yourself. My opinion doesn't matter.

Personally, I find a sports car fine for daily driving. We've always had such for our family cars, and I don't think you'd ever regret a CS4, but people who want a weekend car and a DD usually mean that change is good. A Porsche isn't really a change from a Gallardo, not in spirit. No matter what brand fanatics of different stripes may say. I've driven almost of them and just love fast cars period. They each differ in personality but not in spirit.

If you wanted a Gallardo and a CS4 for alternate weekends I'd understand completely. But if you feel the Gallardo isn't right for daily use, then grab a Mercedes sedan. Or a BMW, Audi or even a Buick for that matter. Anything with a serious back seat and handling good enough to relax in fast traffic, but not much more.

That's the only way to really have a change for weekdays. Sit higher, don't worry about the traffic or the parking lot damaging a beloved toy, and save your energy for the weekend. Not that I ever chose that course, since we've always managed to do without a real back seat or rent a sedan when absolutely desperate. But that is the scenario given me by our contemporaries who preferred something more mundane for a daily driver.

 

Then why did you ask about the choices? Just curious...

 

I haven't pulled the trigger on that car because I'm still debating on which car to get. I'm actually leaning towards the CLS55 because of having the Lambo on weekends. I agree about the two sport car analysis but living in AZ makes it easier to deal with daily than other areas. I just want to make the correct choice. My wife likes the M6 VERT

 

Any other options on DD'S I might be missing? Cars in the family currently are H2 Supercharged my DD which is being sold Mercedes S550 wife car and the Gallardo.

Difficult to advise- your choices are so different from each other. The only things I can tell is that you clearly don't need a 4-door, you don't mind a little bling, and cost / maintenance is of little object but otherwise hard to determine your criteria for a DD. Do you want a manual vs auto tranny?

 

M3 . it may not be as fast in a straight line as the MB but it will run circles around it in road hadling . It has the rear seat , all the comfort features , and you could buy a new car instead of used at this price range . You'll get 4 years 50K miles and free service . It's a great DD.

 

You pretty much hit the nail on the head! I'm looking to spend less than 60k and get the best used car I can for looks and fun!!!

 

i say the cls 55, that would be the best choice if you have a 6 year old, you have a lambo, for the weekend if you wanna play hard ball.... so the cls 55 is a no brainer...

 

I agree with Larry on the M3. If not, the CLS55 would be a fantastic choice as well.

I would not do the Porsche as a DD. As much as I think the car is absolutely a phenominial driver's car, and the end of the day it is a sportscar. Period. It's just not conducive for DD activity. I'm getting out of mine specifically for that reason. Trust me.... golf clubs, dry cleaning, a briefcase, large coat (that you don't keep on while you are driving),etc. are all a royal pain in the ***.

No doubt- the M3 is a great combo of power, feedback, comfort and utility- and you can def get it new for the price of the others. If you don't mind a manual tranny- a slightly used Audi RS4 is a phenomenal drive, looks great and is much rarer than the M3- less than 2000 sent to the US between 2007-08. The new MB C63 is a beast too and is probably the best of the 3 if you really want a "auto" transmission- that is a complete hooligan of a car.

 

narrowed down between CLS55 and a nice 2005 PORSCHE 911 TURBO S CAB slightly modded 500 plus HP. I looked at the M3 but the exterior didn't do anything for me(to each his own) I don't need much space as I live where the sun shines 300 days per year and can put the clubs in the passenger seat
