Hi-flow cats vs Calif smog test
#16
So the question then is, "Why have high flow cats in the first place?" If it won't pass then it's best to go with others that get the full cat bypass instead of high flow cats. Someone please enlighten me.
Maybe it makes the customer feel he/she is not contributing to global warming by having some form of emissions control vs. none at all?

But that's just me.

Why would it seem unreasonable? It is what it is...
I like to wrench on my car so for me its not biggy, for others it is. Either way enjoy that 997

As V35 stated in his post but in addition...you will probably get a CEL light to kick off due to the hot signal from the 02 sensors. This would require software or a 02 extension to get around this. Also, I do appreciate cleaner air. You also live in LA county, I guarantee that you will get a fix it ticket for excessive noise if you run no cats.

Well the small gains you can get can also be offset by the probability of CELs on the NA cars. Most of our clients track their cars and at some point or another the higherflow cats tend to come apart. This is even true for stock cats to a degree so we just don't sell/install them

Thanks for the clarification. So it sounds like the cats play a big role in the sound of the exhaust note too. It's just too bad the high flow cats need to be exchanged out every time smog tests come around. Not such a big deal since it's an easy swap, but it would've been nice not to worry about it.
