C4S "snaps" once I move in the cold - normal?
#16
It's only happened to me a few times and they all involved either cold weather and/or water. I always use the emergency brake when the car is parked so it makes most sense it is related to that. What I did was for a couple days after that first incident, the car was parked with it only being left in gear, no e-brake.
The result, no clunk/bang sound.
I'd say if anyone experiences this issue consistently, regardless of using an ebrake, weather, water, etc...go get it checked out.
It hasn't come back for me since

Reflux, good observation. BTW- Did you get the sound when it was much further below freezing or just kind of hovering around 32F?
Has anyone else noticed if the issue is localized to the e-brake? (I don't get to drive my car for another 2-3 weeks...so I'm looking forward to hearing about this from the other winter DD drivers)

It happens to me when the car sits after a wash and ther is no connection to e-brake - my parking spot is on level ground so I never use the e-brake when parked

It's the brakes. Nothing to worry about.

Its rust that builds up on the brakes after the car has been sitting for a while, like damon said its perfectly normal for cast iron brakes/aluminum brakes to have a loud bang noise from the four wheels. I am assuming its the calipers and the rotors breaking free from each other.
