Sometimes you just need a hammer...

...to gently persuade a bolt to come out.

I worked on my friend's car today and did her oil change on her 05 Carrera. She was amazed that I could get it done for about $65. The dealership charged her $200 the last time.

Unfortunately, the dealership neglected to tell her the last time the oil change was done, they stripped the aluminum Allen bolt. Nice...thanks for playing.

A little hammering, a bolt extractor, and voila...drinks were on her

I just love being overcharged for a simple servicing, and then find that the goons still managed to mess up my car like that!

Actually, I suspect a Torx bit probably caused the problem in the first place. The plug is meant for a hex bit, and a Torx only applies force on the corners.

That was my thought when I first saw the pics. Looks like a Torx indentation into the grooves.

Yep. $8 per hour workforce effect on a $100K car.

Did you happen to have a new drain bolt available?

Thanks for the pictures of the bolt, but were are the ones of the girl?

I had bought a few spare bolts when I discovered the same thing on my Cayenne.

Never occurred to me that I should have photographed the two of us at dinner...would have made for the perfect forum thread.
