I don;t like to see any car company tank but I happen to agree with you . I felt the few Saab's owned by friends of mine could not hold a candle to BMW and were priced close enough to say "why" . Even worse was Volvo which back in 04 ranked as the most uncomfortable car i sat in EVER.

I would not say GM was totally at fault for killing Saab. Saab auto division was in trouble when GM was trying to bail them out with buying them. Saab has employees too that needed to help make them successful.

I have never owned a Saab but there styling or pricing was not for me.

Sad story.

I can think of many other brands that I would rather see perish...

Sorry guys, I disagree. I've owned old body (83 to 86 Saab 900 turbos), esp SPG's, for many years.
It was a great vehicle, impressive in the snow, fast with turbo tweaking, cavernous with the rear seat down and a lot of fun to drive, quirkiness, not withstanding.
RIP SAAB, a few of us special people will miss the old you!!!

No, you are not the only one! While I was a Resident in New Orleans about to graduate from the ochsner Clinic I treated myself to a brand new red/black 1995 900S, the first year of the new Saab after GM's takeover. I had the car for about 2 months and 1500 miles - would have been more miles except for the fact that it was in the shop so much. The door handle fell off in my hand, it had a highway jiggle that they could not fix, and the engine frequently kept sputtering after I turned off the motor. I was about to try to invoke the Lemon Law when, lo and behold, an amazing flood hit the city, and my roommate and I cheered and swigged beers as the water rose higher and higher. Finally at about midnight my Saab began to float down the street. It was one of the happiest moments of my life, and the next day, as soon as the water receded, I was out taking photos of the leaves and debris in the engine compartment and DASH. The insurance company didn't give me much trouble about a total loss, and I htink I only lost a fgew hundred bucks on the deal. Went straight to the Honda dealership and decided I'd wait on another European brand until I was completely out of training.
Bye bye Saab. Good riddance.

SAAB was a solid brand, and in the 80's they put out a unique and rather special product. The mid to late 80's 900Turbo and SPG were real driver's cars. However, they were pricey and unreliable. As such, they never found their niche.

Also, the 900 styling was either "love it or hate it" unique.

Still, I think it's a brand worth revival as an independent manufacturer.

Saab will be rescued

Spyker is apparently bettering their bid - while they are tiny, the Abu Dhabi investment Authority owns them and they will fund it...
