Changed from Mobil1 to Castrol Edge.

Hey guys,

Yesterday i decided to have an oil change even though the car didnt need it since it was just serviced a 2 weeks ago (after much thought, research, and recommendations) I bought the Castrol Edge sport 10W 60.

I wanted to try it out since a lot of my friends swear by it(not 911 owners but other sports cars).

ofcourse i wasnt expecting it to increase power or anything, i did it just to compare the two brands and see which one got better milage/lower oil consumption/oil temp at spirited driving etc.

Before changing the oil, i did COUNTLESS runs from 3rd gear 3K rpm up to a speed of exactly 150KM/H. The average was around 7.7 sec according to the Chrono timer.(AC off, sport mode manual and sport suspension)

After changing the oil i just wanted to try it for kicks and i had no belief whatsoever that it could improve performance. Well lol, it did ! Did the same test 3 times, BUT had a friend in the car and the AC was on, got an average of 7.6. I was thinking " hmmm no way, maybe got lucky this time" So i decided to try it again tday with me alone in the car, same road that i usually do it in. 3 runs, all around 7.1 seconds.

Conditions were identical. full tank of fuel/ac off/same road/sport manual mode/ outside temp. @ 21 C

Now im not saying Castrol is > Mobil1. but in my case it seems like it is.
Just thought id share the info with others that might be interested in the topic of different oil brands.

Any others with similar experiences ?

i am interested in this oil as well. I first came aware of castro edge from my M5. However, isn't 10w-60 too heavy? They dont make 40 weight oils.

Well there is the Castrol Edge which is 5W-40. I tried the 10W-60 to see if it addressed the oil consumption issue. Only time will tell i guess.

Edge Sport 0W-40 is listed as an approved oil on Porsche's manufacturer's TSB, ENU 1701. While it is not available in the US, it is available to Porsche customers in the ROW.
