toyo r888

I haven't had a set of Toyo 888's but I have seen a number of people that drive to and from the track on them. I have also seen people use these as there street tires. I don't think the wear will be noticeable compared to were that the DE will have.

They wear like Iron, are terrible for the first 4 track days, then find their "sweet spot". Not too bad in the rain. Incredibly loud on the street - as in you have to shout to be heard when driving on the highway. Terrible pick for a street car, the old RA1s are much better for dual use, and are on close-out sale at Frisby right now in 245/305 x 18.

If you are set on 19s, then the R888 is probably a fine pick. The 19" Cups and Corsas are "quicker" when fresh, but after 4-6 DEs the R888 are finally up to a point where they trump the others. If you are going with 18s, then quickly get a couple of the last sets of 245/305 RA1s at Frisby Race Tire and when they are gone, go to the R888s. If you don't yet have the wheels, two good buys at TireRack now - the 18" Volk TE37s are $599 each on sale and the OZ Aleggerita are only about $400 each. I've had both and strongly prefer the Volks (forged vs. cast for the OZs, which also were very hard to balance and needed many ounces of weight on 2 wheels).

I have driving to de's for 2 years on 888's and they work great. I use 18" wheels but for guys that use 19" wheels the 888's are better than the Michelin sport cup in 19"

I have a set for auto-x / DE. Specifically wanted something I could drive to the events on. They have worked pretty well - not as sticky as a Hoosier or V710 but totally streetable except for the terrible howl. As others have mentioned - very noisy.
Only two DEs and two autocrosses and they look as if they are going to last for quite a while.
They do seem far better in the wet than the Sport Cups (just my opinion of course)
