Bought a 06 911 Carrera
#17
Well I've finally gone and bought my first Porsche 911 after researching 993's, losing money on one, and then coming to my smarts and purchasing a 997.
Its a 2006 Carrera 6-speed with only 29k miles and CPO from Champion. I'm super pleased with their customer service and the deal I negotiated. The car will be shipped to me next week and then we'll see about mods in the future. I'll lurk more on the 997 forums of 6speed and Rennlist to see what others have done, etc.

Prices for 997's in Dubai are higher than the U.S. and most for sale are automatics. The main consideration in buying the U.S. Spec 911 was the ability to import it into Canada when I return...you can't import vehicles from around the World into Canada unless they are 15 years old or older. U.S spec cars are fine so I'll bring this car into Dubai and drive it until we return to Canada.
As for the 993 vs. 997 purchase it came down to modern convieniences (interior) and options. I love the look of 993's but they are a smaller 911 and are at least 12 years old when 2010 comes around. As the vehicle will be my daily driver and long term keeper I didn't want to come across wiring or reliability issues that come with 12+ old vehicles. You can get well maintained 993's for the same price as well maintained 997's from 05 and 06...to me I'd rather have the newer 911. Most owners of 993's use them as weekend cruisers and not daily drivers or can afford to have a 2nd, 3rd or 4th vehicle. This 997 will do it all for me such as carry my bikes, snowboards, etc. as it will be an all-season car.
I previously had a 91 NSX and it was a nightmare with weird gremlins and that put me over the edge...never again. I understand the "purity" of 993's having driven a few but to be honest the 997 is just as much Porsche in my opinion but with nicer ammenities.

Beautiful car! I contemplated buying a 993 and went with a 997 as well. The 993 is still my favorite looking but since I drive the car daily for 6 mos of the year it was hard not to go for the modern conveniences the 997 offers.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
