I can't ever see myself being without a Porsche. But, I do think that some day soon Porsche will have to deal with the $/performance factor and give us all a little more for our money.

Only those were not real Corvettes. The first real Corvettes that are racing is this year.

I guess that means that "race" Porsches are not "Real" Porsches!

When I say real, I mean based on the street car and sharing many of the same parts. The GT1 Corvette's had nothing but a steel rail (which was in itself heavily modified) and shared no stock parts with the street cars.

The new Corvette's do.

My point is you can't relate Corvette's GT1 track "records" as you say to the street cars, because they weren't remotely the same cars.

Unless I'm mistaken the reason that Porsche or any other manufacturer dropped out of GT1 is because there was nothing in the field that could compete with the Vettes in that class.

OK, let's move on to GT2 (I think Porsche has one of these). "As the team (Corvette) conducted a five-race test program in preparation for a unified GT class in 2010, Corvette Racing posted five podium finishes and notched its first GT2 win at Mosport International Raceway on August 30. In the series' final five rounds, Corvette Racing scored more team and manufacturer points than any other GT2 entry, and O'Connell and Magnussen tallied the most points in the GT2 drivers championship. The season ended with fireworks at Laguna Seca as Magnussen walked away from his battered race car after a high-speed crash on the final lap of the season. "

I hardly think you can dismiss the Corvette on any level - no matter how much we all want to think our Pcars are superior. Having both is a unique experience. For racing I will take my Z06 but for everyday fun driving I will take my Carrera S. The funny thing is that my Z06 will outperform my Carrera S in virtually all ways on the track but cost significantly less money.

My feeling is that the Z06, Z1 or Viper ACR is a superior track car to most any Porsche IN THE HANDS OF THE RIGHT DRIVER. That being said, hardly any of us can drive our Porsches anywhere close to their capabilities. The Vettes and Vipers absolutely command a level of driving prowess that I don't posess. To drive at the 'limits' of Vipers and Vettes is, I believe, much more difficult than with a Porsche, which is why I have both.

I like to push the limits on the track as it is a great learning experience. However, this doesn't always translate well to the street. For that, I will usually choose my Porsche since it seems to be more well 'sorted' for this purpose.

You are mistaken, Porsche pulled out of GT1 because it could not compete with the Mercedes in FIA GT. After that, the Oreca Vipers took over. The Corvette's did not run FIA, they were running ALMS. Still, not production cars, irrelevant.

Wow, you went off on a huge tangent. Part of the reason Corvette scored the most points is because they were the only team with two competitive cars (no fault of their own). They also had a much bigger motor than what they will be allowed, instead running a detuned version of what they already had. And on top of that bigger motor snuck direct injection into the series knowing it shouldn't have been on the cars. Meanwhile the Porsche was carrying penalty weight and rev handicaps all season.

That still has nothing to do with my original point.

You can delete the Z06 from your list as it's certainly not superior to any of the top 3 current Porsche's. (GT3, GT2, Turbo). I think it's safe to say the only advantage the ZR-1 has over the GT2 is hp. That IMO does not make it a superior track car. And turning a faster lap CERTAINLY does not make a car a superior track car, especially with cars that close.

The ACR is actually superior to pretty much everything, that I'll agree with.

You should see what numbers the 2010 ACR-X is putting up...simply incredible.

I heard!! It ran a 2:08 at Sebring this weekend at Winterfest. That's fast as heck!!!!!!

For reference the fastest lap time for ALMS GT2 in 09 was a 2:02.........

World Challenge runs 2:10's or so.

the whole thing seems a bit silly to me. I just don't see the same person being interested in both cars. My father is a Vette person and thinks I'm crazy to have spent twice the amount of money on my 997s when I could have bought a Vette that would perform the same in all the performance tests if not better, but I did not buy my car for performance shoot outs. I bought my car to drive everyday and I just find the Porsche to do everything I want it to while accomidating my car seat for my 2 year old son.

Its not intended to sway buyers away from P-cars to Vettes, as there is no one like that in reality. Its sole purpose is making potential corvette buyers feel good, its pure sophism giving them some solace regarding their car.

A guy who owns a local chic-fil-a in my area went from a vette to a 997, back to a vette. He only kept the 997 a few months before switching back.

IMO people who think that because the performance of their car is near or above a more expensive car that there is no reason to buy the other car simply have inferiority complexes. I don't say to anyone with a Gallardo, F360 why didn't you buy a TT. People that can't recognize different strokes are simply trying to make up for the fact they couldn't afford the more expensive car.

For example, the GT-R fanboys jumping on the LFA, because it doesn't outperform the GT-R by enough to be 300+k....... It's a carbon fiber Monocoque!!! And a real sports car. The GT-R or anything else makes it any more relevant.

Another case is because a C6Z06 outperformed the first iteration of SRT-10 doesn't mean a Viper owner needs any justification for buying a Viper instead of a Z06 even though it cost more.

Most of those arguments are childish adults who can't accept that their car is priced where it is for a reason and isn't worth any more than what they bought it for. That really gets on my nerves. Conversely those who think their car is better because they paid for it is equally as annoying.

I think a better description to this phrase is "you can't handle the power". If you put a pro behind the wheel then the machine will not get away. Unfortunately, everyone here is not a pro so they can't handle the power and don't know how to finesse the steering.

That's ! Could he store more chikin in the Vette ? Makes me hungry.

I am a guy that perhaps could be swayed to a Vette - but I'm sure once I drive it I'll like my 997 better. There's just a steering feel on Porsches that GM can't really duplicate, IMHO.

You have a point, only the redneck guy across the street from me wasn't nice. He was a fool. Unfortunately the Corvette got lost in the shuffle.
