Going to go to deposit tomorrow on new 2010 4S, how did I do?

The key to getting a good deal is ones willingness and ability to walk away from a deal that he feels coiuld be better . it's never a loss if the person still retains his money --even if he doesn't have a car .
The minute a buyer shows emotion and attachment going into a deal that's when he loses. In fact I also know that too because when younger i did buy cars and in retrospect I overpaid for some of them .
Now that doesn't mean that a buyer ought to low ball a dealership either . Most dealerships are hard working people who deserve to get paid too. So the essence is finding the price that both can handle.
Despite the lower production numbers the market has bo shortage 997 C4S 2010 cars . Even though a deal ought not fail over 2K he can always buy the car somewhere else .
The weak spot in his post is that he is making a deposit which implies that he;s not ready to drive the car home on the same day . In order to score the deal it has to be just as impulsive to the seller as it is to the buyer .
Take ir leave it --gets the best price -- or leaves the car sitting . And lastly if he does walk .. they may not like it in the moment but they develop a lot of respect when they see that he bought the car somewhere else when he comes to them the next time .
2 grand is 2 grand . Just as he ought not let the car go by .. neither shoild they .

Brian,
You dealing with Hoffman? I tried to buy my 09 from them found they were not even close. I would say you could do better if it is them. They have cars on the lot which have been there for many months.
I was really turned off by there attitude.
If it is not them ignore the above.
good luck

Is this car on the lot ?
No full leather, sport chrono, pdk, adaptive or sport seats ?
10K off ? Well you did fair on price . It's hard for me to swallow it because my 09 C2S had the same MSRP and I paid 84K . Now it's true that I got one of those deals back when I felt it was a once in na lifetime thing to see 20 percent off and I know that times have changed with the 2010 pricing and inventory --BUT I do speculate that if you waited six months you woild not have the car now but your chances to get another 10K off increase . Then you can get that same car with full leather, sport chrono, and more options for that same 94K .

If you believe that the dealer is only making $1,000 your are naive, they would all be out of business if that was all they were making. The salesman is making many times that much, let alone the dealer.
If you are going to drive it this winter then maybe now is the time to buy. But if you are going to let it sit in the garage, wait a few months. The deals will get better on the 2010's.

Larry!
Maybe I need to hire Larry for his nego skills . I think tomorrow some new offer might come in that will either lower my price or get me something else, like tire/rim protection, or who knows. I know Im the one with the money and they are trying to extract it from me!

yrralis1...man you are goood. Always learn something from your posts. My two cents: Even on the "09's not everyone get the often talked or wrote about 20K off MSRP. Atleast not in the NW region that I know off. I got 16,500 K off MSRP back in the third week of Nov '09 but went for the car just because it was really a well optioned car with all the performance and aesthetic features that I would have gone for if I had built it myself. It had nothing that I would not have wanted like XM radio etc. When other 911 owners sit in my car and really take notice of certain aspects of the car such as the deviated stitiching, full leather, adaptive sport seats and seatback in full leather it makes my car that much more special to me and that feel is worth the money I paid for it. I live two hours away from my dealer and to me establishing a good working relationship with the local dealer who will be servicing my car is more important than saving 2K. If you really like the way your car is optioned, the color and interior, I say tell them that you will drive it home today if they give you another 1K off. I am sure they will cut you some more slack.

Sometimes I hate to offer my own reality here. The '09 buys were cars that were basically a full year from model release. Typical first year depreciation = 20%? Any arguments? So, $20k off on a year old car is basically buying the new car at the current value. 10% off on a brand new car, you save quite a bit on the first year's depreciation. I think the agreed point here is that the BEST you will EVER do is 20% off on a year end close out car. BUT, that is really the current value at that time.
I really think you could get the benefit of buying a car in CT when it is 20 degrees. Some think you may get a better deal in 6 months. I might argue that a 10% off deal will not happen in the Spring/Summer in the NE. Perhaps on the 4S, but certainly not on a Cab. Now, 6 months from now, you have 1/2 a year's depreciation on a 2010. Basically $10k. You SHOULD get the car for $20k off in the summer. I would go out on a limb to say that NO WAY your're going to get that kind of discount in the summer. This December, maybe, but then the discount is really the first year's depreciation, not really a discount at all.
I always think it is easier to price a used car than the "value" of a new car discount. Just wanted to offer a different view here. Get the car now, buy snows, and enjoy it now with 4wd!

If not .. it's their loss . You can always buy a car . In fact if I was specing it there would be a few missing options like sport chrono and full leather and even though some will say it does not matter --it's nice to have.
One more thing -- let them know that if you do buy it that over time you hope to make it real nice at their service with a few upgrades and that even though this is yoir first Porsche you hope to be a long term customer and that this deal is their way of opening that door.

It is "fair" . That was my first sentence in my first post on this thread .
"Fair" isn't great though and in my opinion 92K is doable . Keep in mind that he will service the car there too giving them more business . If several dealerships have the same car in his region .. one of them has to bite .

I only got 8% off my 2010 factory build and most have told me that I got a great deal. I'm not sure. I ordered it in June of '09 and took delivery the day before Halloween. It just didn't make sense to me to go for an '09 even though the discounts were much greater. I also couldn't find a '09 C2 in blk/blk with the options I wanted. I know the 2010 model year will see a much lower number of cars being built. I'm hoping they hold their value a little better though I'm not sure about that. There really isn't any difference between 09's and 10's that I can see other than the sport steering wheel (with the round center) now seems to be standard.
Way back in '95 I bought a Mazda Miata. The car was brand new but it was a '94 and sitting on the lot for almost a full year. The tires had flat spots on them. They changed them for me before delivery. The sticker was 20.5K and I got it for 16K even. That's a little more than 20% on a car that was a year old leftover.

Been trying to do a deal withthe NJ/NY dealers. IMHO here is the skinny on them.
1)Paul Miller-Nice guys, GREAT place for service..come with cash and be willing to walk...their New Bentley and BMW dealerships are crushing them, Chris M is a fair, very nice salesperson to deal with.
2)Ray Catena- they think that when you walk in there you have cash dripping off you...on the other hand ...they are high volume and high volume didn't happen last year for them...they are more willing to deal now than I have ever seen...but you are just a number there...new sales people every month.
3)Town Motors...small, friendly dealership...not too much in inventory but when they have the car you want..BUY it...they are great.
4)Manhattan Motor Cars- Still have a brand new 08 C4S I offered to buy nearly 2 years ago sitting on the floor...you get the point...It should Manhattan MSRP Motor Cars.
I would'nt by a 4s now...wait 6 months...if it's a Cab..BUY it now...Cab season in NJ/NY is fast a furious and they all go between March through May.

You have held out long enough to get the Turbo cab PDK. There are all kinds of new options on that car . You won't get much (if any) of a discount . Turbo market is different and its a refresh launch but its going to be a nice car . Make sure you look at the options like PTV (includes engine mounts) , pdk, sport chrono etc.
