Better sound : Cat by pass + muffler by pass ?

Hi All,

I currently have the Fabspeed Muffler by pass and while the sound was very loud the first week, it seems to have quieted down a bit. Cold start is still amazing and when im at 4.5k rpm or plus, it does sound great but im missing the gurgle i had the first week right after install.

I am thinking of either a Cold air intake or the cat by pass.

Anyone has a Muffler by pass + Cat by pass ?

I know i might get the CEL and prob some issues with inspections but other than that, is there any reason why i should install the cat by pass by fabspeed? Will it be too loud ?The car is my daily driver.

I have a Tubi exhaust and had originally installed the cat bypass at the same time. It was astounding how loud and uncomfortable it was. I called Tubi and they told me that the exhaust was designed to use the stock cats. I changed back and the car is loud and bearable.

have also had a muffler bypass on my GT3 with the stock cats. IT WAS LOUD. Dont get me wrong I love loud. I run drag pipes on my Harley.

I found that changing the cats and the muffler was overkill. I also think that without the back pressure that you give up so low end performance. JMHO

for a daily that would be insanely loud.

Cat by pass if off then. I read a few other posts and it seems it is way to loud/drowning.

How about a cold air kit/filter ?

MOBONIC runs his car on cat bypass and some sort of sport mufflers - PM him.

I think civilized edge goes exactly on having 200 cell sport cats with stock mufflers. Any 'loud' sport mufflers on top of sport 200/100 cell cats will be loud. I have a sad day today taking off my mufflers to put stock ones back as my wife finally won this battle with me, God bless her.

If all you want is sound - then keep stock cats and experiment with mufflers. Buy my Fabspeed maxflos - you can get nice deal on that. People say Tubi ones sound very loud and nice, but they are expensive. Experiment and find what you like.

Air kit / filter will not do much to sound at all, compared to what 200 cell cats or sport mufflers do.

We've seen a few cat+muffler bypass in here, but mostly from customers sick of the noise who want a muffler put back on, so probably not the best source of info.

All I will say: it will be louder.

I have a set of AfterHours mufflers for sale. They are about 75% as loud as muffler mypass, but very deep and gurgly.

Are you currently running stock cats?

Running a cat-bypass will be LOUD. In my opinion it's not a good loud, but more of a "I'm sick of this!" kind of loud. If you want to add some bit and more aggression to the exhaust sound, personally I'd go with a good set of hi-flow cats instead.

well, I tried x-pipe cats with no mufflers when I installed it - it sounds very loud. 2-3 times louder than with mufflers.

Car with cats bypass and no mufflers, to explain it properly you should visit any indy500 or so event and listen to it. it is loud to the level when it`s hurtful for ears. it is not civilized and most likely you`ll get ticket for this.

Maxflos do limit noise to perfect level. as I just got my stock mufflers back I am in deep grief - car lost her voice. everything is very subdued now, just a little bit louder than with stock cats. Some folks complained lack of 'raspness' with those fabspeed mufflers - do not know, to me they were quite perfect. lack of everything is now - with stock ones back.

I am selling them, so, make me an offer if interested, I got them in August 2009, so they are still almost new.
