I think I found an 05 C2S I want

That 05 CPO from Loeber (mentioned above) was the other one I had my eye on for the past few months. However, it doesn't have Sport Chrono. If it had it, I would have put in an offer on that one.

I don't think many people think sports chrono is a musk have unless they are considering a PDK....
you might want to search opinions on it.

If you're looking in Chicago- I just traded in a '07 C2S CPO'ed to Napleton Porsche- 15 K miles, great shape, no stories, Arctic/Blk, sport chrono, sport exhaust, sport shifter, heated seats, NAV, Bose, Mirrors. PM me if you want more details-

I looked for a few months also. You will know when you find the right car. If I was looking at a car with a replaced engine and body work I would run. I got a one owner cherry 2006 997 S with 30k off lease with many options. $48.5 k shipped from Chicago to SF. Bought it in December when the dealer wanted to get the car off his books before his fiscal year ended. I am very happy with my purchase, now spending more money that I ever thought I would on upgrades (new black Rennsport wheels, Gundo Hack Muffler, Front Clear Bra, BMC air filter, Fabspeed Air intake, Dension 500, Clear side markers & Black Exhaust Tips and getting ready to do the ECU flash). Can't get the smile off my face every time I am driving the new car!
Patience will get you what you want!

Here is a similar thread over on rennlist where a guy bought a 2006 S for $46k to give you an idea of where you can be.
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...se-advise.html
Get a 2006 or 2007 if you can swing it. Issues with the 2005 engine.

The fact that it is low mile and reliable is a major PLUS in his favor though and in my opinion he ought to consider this car (if the price is right) .

For what it's worth, the Chicago Toy Store is a used car dealer, not a Porsche store. I would be leery of buying anything such as a Porsche from a used car lot. They're saying that they can't go lower because they just replaced the rear rotors and pads, they would have had to do that anyway in order to sell the car.
I wonder how long he's had the car. I wouldn't discount the car because the engine's been replaced, IMO that's a plus.
I'm with the others here who have chimed in, if it doesn't feel right, then don't buy it.

Generally I and most people here would agree with you 100%. However, I almost bought a 1995 993 from them last Summer (wish I had) and checked them out fairly thoroughly. They had a solid BBB rating and excellent consumer reviews, the salesman treated me well and was reasonably well informed on the car, the car was priced accurately compared to other 94-96 993's available at the time, and they encouraged me to have the car checked out by a dealer or indie.
FWIW, +1 on your engine opinion; who would want a 5 1/2 year old original when they could have an 07 new or rebuilt?

100% agree with the above... You will find the right car at the right price. Just be patient. It took me 6 months to do so.

The consensus is that I should pass. Is that due to a possible reliability issue or due to having a "past"? My biggest concern was making sure the engine was good and the car hadn't been in any accidents. Since the new engine was replaced in 07, at 9800 miles and the odometer reads 30912, the new engine has just over 21k miles on it. I am ok with the previous paintwork. I will need to have paint work after a few years on the Houston freeways.
I am taking in all of your advice and thinking very hard about it. If I had another $20k cash, I would buy a more prestine S, but I am realistic about what I can afford to buy.
Please don't shoot me guys, but I think I am going stop analyzing the car and decide with my emotions.

Good luck no matter what you choose to do.
