Watching video in your 997

You could go for an aftermarket head unit, touch screen, etc. For about $2k you can get a beautiful 8 inch, full color touchscreen that has DVD player, Garmin Nav, iPod integration, and BT.
However, if you want the factory PCM look, it's not possible in the 997 yet.
Dension makes a video add-on to their Gateway 500 unit, but it works only in the Cayenne whose head unit is capable of accepting video-in sources. I met with them at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, and they sounded confident that they'd find a solution, which, as with all their solutions, leverages the OEM head-unit, controls, and screen.

The PCM 3 has such capabilities, in the UK website Porsche sells an add on that allows watching TV, therefore watching DVD's shouldn't be a major leap.

The TV tuner, available on request, is capable of receiving analogue and digital free-to-air television broadcasts (DVB-T) to provide entertainment between journeys. For your safety, the TV picture is switched off while the car is in motion."
