Cat Bypass with Softronic

Hello All, I am thinking about putting Cat Bypass pipes with the x51 headers and the AWE mufflers. I already have the mufflers and the x51 headers installed and the car sounds great, but I would like it to be a little louder. If I would go with the cat bypass I was told I could flash the ECU to stop the check engine light from coming on. Is that ture? Anyway, should I do cat bypass or 200 cel sport cats??? If anyone has sound clip that would be great or if you would live in the tri-state area I would love to take a ride to hear what it sounds like in person.

I did the cat bypass on my 993 and man was it LOUD, really really loud, so loud i went back, but then again it's up to you how loud you really want them. I've heard the AWE cats and they sound great and will make it louder, personally that's what i would do, I'm ordering a set myself to add to my X51 headers & Cargraphic mufflers

I would get the 200 cell sport cat's. That should be plenty loud. But I guess "loud" can be a subjective term.

Agreed. I'd go for some 200 cell sport cats as well. The sound is excellent. It's loud, but at the same time it retains some good sound qualities, rather then just being outright crazy loud. Being from Northern NJ myself, I know some of the "challenges" you'll have to face if your car runs no cats, especially if it's loud. We've had some great success with AWE cats, which we ran consistently on our 997.1 shop car with every muffler option available. We've also used Cargraphic 200 cell cats with success.

But to answer your original question. Yes, if you want to go forward with the cat-bypass, the software can be adjusted to insure no CEL's. Give Softronic a buzz, they know their stuff.

Porsche05, I had the setup you have now with the AWE mufflers and to be honest without the 200cpi cats it really wasn't that much louder than OEM. Add the 200cpi cats and it will definitely add to the volume of the sound of the car. Haven't heard a car with AWEs and no cats though so I can't comment. See my setup now in my sig and it is very loud and very aggressive. Onc thing about going with a cat bypass is that its a heck of a lot cheaper than cats...oh, one other thing..don't bother spending big bucks for the cat bypass if you go down this route...any decent muffler shop could do this for $300 or so.

Here is a youtube video I shot...I didn't rev it past 1400rpm as my neighbors will lynch me. If I rev it above 3k rpm it actually hurts your ears....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28uLDWVoG4U

One more from the interior..forgive the fact that the camera kept falling off its mount and in the beginning I forgot to turn down the stereo. The sound is with the windows up..I will make another one soon and repost.

Fast forward it to around the 2:25 mark...

Turn it up!!

I did Supersprint mufflers and SS cat bypass, its great! It sounds like an active exhaust, more bass at idle but after 2,500 around 2,800, it fires up, and I just love it! This way, you could skip cops and still have a great sounding car. My bypass hasnt given me any CEL, but you could take it to your dealer for PIWIS, not just flash your ECU (maybe it means the same thing). Even if I get a CEL soon, there is a oxygen sensor extension. Here's the link.

Enjoy and good luck
