Key Head Swap

Has anyone changed out their older grey/black key head for the new (all black) key head?

If so, any recommendations on how to swap the transponders? Mine seems to be stuck in place. Would it be easier to just get the key reprogrammed?

you have to pry the little chip out of the old head..It was so glued in I had to cut it out and pry off the plastic ..then just slip it in the new slot in the new key head and works just fine..

Just out of curiosity, what did you use to cut it out? It seems like it is fragile, did you end up damaging the transponder body at all during removal?

be careful, I damaged mine in the process of removing it. I ended up using the chip in the spare plastic key. The one in the spare key is not glued, however, with spare key chip, your individual memory set up in the PCM will not be available.

I used a small screw driver to pry it out. Try to scape around the transponder where you can visibly see the glue. Just make sure you don't damage the transponder. Put more pressure on the old casing more than the transponder when prying it out. i'm assuming that you don't need the old casing anymore. Once you get the transponder out, it will fit and slide into the new casing. Hope that helps.
