Os some may see "talking with people on the internet as stupid" as I have been told before. I've been called a geek for talking about forums.
I observe both examples.

1) The non car guy -- He likes the car more for what it represents about him rather than without him. A person doesn't have to drive a car every day or on a racetrack to appreciate the car's significance in automotive history either . In fact I sometimes wonder if professional drivers have some of the fun of the sport taken away by the business and commecial aspects that come with driving being a job .

I feel the true car guy .. simply loves the car and drives it the way he wants but values what it is more than what others think.

2) Posting - Some people simply don't like to post and others (like me) find the interractive medium of a wriiten forum extremely entertaining . I have met a lot of people who really have so much that they could say but the idea of writing a post is just not their style of expressing it.
