Although I've never had a 996, I think the rear seats are the same, and really has not changed much even since the earlier 911s.

I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old. First, I removed the rear seatbacks and bottom cushions, you do gain some extra clearance that way. I put the rear facing infant seat behind the passenger seat, which has to be moved up a bit, but no problem because my wife is not too tall (5'3"). I have a Britax Boulevard behind me for my 3 yo. I'm 5'10" and while I need to sit just slightly more forward from my normal position, it doesn't bother me much. I'm currently considering moving the 3 yo to a booster for more room and then getting a Britax Roundabout for my daughter when she graduates to sitting forward facing.

Quick tip, if you find that the seat belt still allows slack after installation, make sure you get a $2 seat belt H-clip to prevent the slack. Helps a lot.

There's actually quite a bit of information on child seats with the 911 on this forum and others, this topic comes up a lot. The rear seats have a lot of utility, you just can't fit adults back there. But, for those of us that have kids, they are perfect.

No matter how you twist and turn these cars are not rear passenger friendly...especially for small children. Having a child sit behind the driver, in my opinion, is dangerous. I would only put a child behind the passenger seat if no one is sitting in the front seat. Also make sure the ride is real short.

For all practical purposes, the back seat is only an extension for a trunk with minimal storage capacity.

If the driver is taller than average height, no one but a small(very small) child will ever fit behind him. On the passenger side, the passenger and occupant must both be very short.

Rear seat passenger use is, essentially, emergency only.

I've taken my 2 boys who are still quite young at 8 and 5 on somewhat long trips in the car (2 hrs.) and I felt they were quite safe in the car. I am only avg. height at 5'10" and my oldest son has room behind the drivers seat as I don't sit as if I am in a chaise lounge.

+1 for that. My girls are 9 and 11 (4'3" and 4'8") and they actually love the snug fit.

Here is a typical Saturday at my home, three girls 6, 4 and 2 who love to ride with their daddy. It's the main reason I sold my Boxster so that I could share my Porsche experiences with my growing family.

I've had two up in the back for a three hour trip and there were never any complaints apart from a lack of good music. I've fixed that with a Dension 500 install for my iPod/iPhone.

I have a 6 and 4 year old and they love going in the porsche. I take them to school a few blocks away once a week, so the rear seats are essential for me. In fact when they can't fit in the back I will move on to a GT3!

something different...

Although we have an incredibly precious 16 month old daughter who will no doubt enjoy riding in the bullet, the car seat has not come in at the dealer yet. So for now, check this out....

Wife guilted me into taking my car downtown. At the end of the night leave with our friend in need and then another friend joins along as were walking to the parking lot not realizing that we took my car.... I'm 6'6" but my wife and friend in the back are, to quote Dean martin, SM all.

It was all good fun in retrospect.

Same here - my wife is 5"1" and my 11 year old daughter is around 4'8". We often go out in the 997 - plenty of room for all and very safe.

Will the Recaro Vivo also fit in a 997.1 Cab?
