Please try selling here first before trading in!
All,
I'm relatively new to these forums, and if I'm breaking rules by sending this message, I apologize...
I'm seeing posts where people talk about having traded their cars to dealers, getting low-balled, and then seeing that the dealer is asking way more for the car. I'm seeing ridiculous prices at the dealerships!
My thought is that if some of you "traders" posted your car on this site first, you might find a private buyer/enthusiast willing to pay more than the dealer - everyone wins!
Granted, it's a bit more stressful buying a private car vs CPO, but it's financially worth trying to make it work for both parties. With a PPI and service records, and the possibility of purchasing EasyCare, I'd think Private could be fine.
Thoughts?

trying to buy/sell here first is a problem for many members, including yourself, that do not have the required 100 good posts...you can ask a moderator to place a classified for you but only if the sale will benefit the members and you have 15 good posts so you can pm other members...there are other issues as well, including transportation, crossing borders or states, registration and payment/transfer of title...many don't want the hassle and accept less payment or trade-in value from a dealer...anyone mature enough to own a 997 is mature enough to make the decision as to selling privately or not...as NorthVan said...there are plenty of cars for sale in the marketplace

Is spring typically better or worse as a buyer in this market?

i think it has to do with a few issues... taxes for one...dealer offering me $74 in trade on my 09 997s...in mass we have 6.25% tax...i would have to get $78,625 to be in the same spot...
Also - i would much rather sell it to an individual and have them get a great price - but its also a lot harder to find someone willing to shell out $80 k - there are tons of dealers out there with plenty of cash...
i always seem to trade my cars in because when i list them on places like cars.com all i get are those dealers who want to sell my car on consignment...it will only cost me $2000 to put it on there lot..( if you are unfamiliar with this - the dealer calls people who have cars listed and says they can get you 20% more than you are asking - you just need to pay them a few grand upfront...its a horrible scam - even some of the smarter people i know have fallen for it.)

This can often be handled by arranging the sale through your dealer. This is what I did when ordering my car. I told them that I already had a buyer for my current car and asked if they would sell my car to him. They'll do it if it helps sell you their car. That way, you can still get the sales tax credit if your state has one.

This is a horrible place to sell your car... if you want top dollar that is. Too many educated people on here that know exactly what a car is worth. I'd rather sell my car to some guy with too much money and not enough time to research true values.

Usually when a forum member is considering selling his car he mentions it . But to actually sell it to another forum member involves inpection, travel, transport and most importantly a sale transaction. It becomes so expensive and personal that for most its simply not worth it . There have been a lot of great cars that members have mentioned and even placed in the classified only to sit for weeks unsold. Buying and trading to a dealership removes some of headache and it also opens the door to a larger selection of cars .
However --some folks here do in fact get to know one another in real life . Others post aboit how meticulous they are with their cars and with time even though we live far apart one does get to learn about the car's general care and condition.
Sometimes it works out where a person buys a car from another member and other times it may even be in the region of another member . It seems moreso that these car purchases happen more by chance because to find it all in one car, at the right time , for the right price .. is not always easy .
