I was told by my Porsche salesperson, who sometimes takes in Ferrari on consignment that on some models an oil change can cost like 7K because they have to drop the engine to do it. That sounds kind of crazy to me but I'm sure the maintenance on F-cars is wicked high.

By the way, I think the 458 Italia is the nicest looking model since the Enzo and F40.

I caught the Pcar's viruses in February of 2009 after driving Lexus prior to 2001 and various AMG cars for over 9 yrs... The driving experience is truly rewarding, after driving all types of cars (I went through 15 cars in the last 3 yrs) and Im very content with my 997.2. Although I can use a little bit more power and Im eye-ing the new 997.2TT PDK at the moment.

By this account, I've been obsessed since I was 13. Good luck with your rehabilitation.

Wow~~~~~~~

I thought 10 years of this agonizing pleasure was long enough! Some of you guys have 30 ~ 40 yrs of this craving heart ache.

I don't think I'll ever be cured and I'd like to say that all of us, from all walks of life, are defining Porsche.

This forum has been reassuring to know that it's not just me. Porsche is all I ever cared for my whole life. I did turn my back on the 996 for a while, but almost considered the 4S. However once the 997 showed up, the passion was re-lit. I haven't looked back. Any other car is just a car. I like Ferrari's and Lambo's but couldn't drive it every day which is the beauty of the Carrera.

Have owned only a good many cars over the years but only a couple that I kept more than 3 or 4 years. First was a '83 BMW 528e, second a '01 Boxster. I kept the BMW for 8 1/2 years, the Boxster for 7 . In the case of both cars I felt there was no reason to replace them because there was nothing to replace them with that I would have enjoyed more. Both cars were relatively trouble free with no OOP costs other than regular maintainance. While the 5 or 6 cars in between were very capable, MB E320 was a great highway cruiser as was the Lexus G300, none of them was missed much after they were replaced. With my current 997 the jury is still out but I still get a big charge out of driving it and for me that's the true measure of my enjoyment. Even after 2 years of ownership, I still look forward to driving the car. Is it replaceable ? Can't really say at this point but what a great time I'll have finding out. More of a blessing than a curse in my book.

You know you love the Carrera when just any parking space won't do. where as any other cars you own can park anywhere.

On a side note, took me 3 days to find the tail and put her into a guard rail. Don't usually like to tell that part of the story as I genuinely tear up when I think about it.

I bought another a few years later after I parted the first one out. Never got to finish the project car before I moved across the country. 5 months ago I finally got into a dd 997 c2 and believe me, the fire is burnin' as hot as ever!

I finally bought my first Porsche after being a Porsche nut since I lived in Germany as a kid. I can't say I've ever been a car nut. I was satisfied to drive a Toyota Corolla that had 213,000 miles on it when it finally had to go. My thinking was, if I'm not driving a Porsche what difference does it make. Finally, My wife gave her blessing and even said she liked the car (although I know she still doesn't get it) so I bought it. She wanted to get a boxster because it "looks cute". No, I bought a 997.2 C2S. Funny how mad she got the first time I pulled it out of the garage to wash it. A "waste of time" she said.
Never the less, the car is great fun to drive. I only wonder why I waited so long to do it.
