Porsche 997 Battery Tray and Size Facts

All;

My factory battery went belly up and I researched a replacement here. One thing everyone should know is the battery tray (OEM) has three threaded holes and one open hole to accommodate multiple battery sizes. When I looked at replacements none were the exact size of the factory battery. The holes fix that. I had to run all the way home to look at it in the car.

I bought a Die Hard International battery at Sears ($135), of all the batteries I researched it had the best warranty and price of any of the batteries. I had to use the fourth hole (no threads) to fit it. I just removed the tray and used black tape to hold the nut in place. 15 minute swap.

The vent pipe was a push on piece included with the battery

Oh, and the battery is identical (discussed in other posts) to the $250 Interstate.

There were a lot of good posts on the battery, but many show different sizes. I should have looked down at the tray after I took out the battery...

Also, put a towel down over the plastic in the trunk before removing the old battery. If it leaks at all it will spot the plastic.

FWIW - the sears international is a buck less than the Interstate MTP93 ($136.95) but has no wheres near the cca or warranty. It is 2# lighter.

Fly: I like your idea about taping the nut for installation. On the 93 I had to tap the outer hole for a longer hold down and installed a 10mm Wurth fastener.

My '08 is going on two years now. Been doin' battery research. Thinking of going with the Odessey (sp?) 925 and Rennline battery kit. Car is not a DD and is on a tender 24/7.

I just installed an Odyssey battery as well as the machined aluminum Rennline battery bracket. It's a beautiful thing. Not that it matters, but the Odyssey is much less than 1/2 the weight of the stock one. Just on principle, having a 45 lb weight mounted high up in the car seems odd. And I've not had a problem with it maintaining a charge for 7-10 days.
Photos if you'd like. It's a very nice piece.
BTW, I previously had a Braille battery with a home-made bracket after my stock battery got a bit tired. I was not impressed - with either the battery or the service I received from the company - and would not recommend it.

Verde,

If you don't mind, can you post a pix of the Odyssey battery and the Rennline bracket? TIA.

After much research I decided to go with the MTP93. I too removed the tray and used the 4th hole to secure the new Interstate battery. Fits perfect, lighter than the MOLL and more CCA! 20 minutes

How can you tell when it's time for a new battery? Does it crank differently? Or did you just get it tested? I'm 50k miles and 5 yrs into mine, and expect I'm due soon.
