08 C2S Price help

(Somewhat long post - sorry)

A few members on here know I'm searching for a C2S... My price range is generally in the 50's although I briefly considered an 09 leftover, and have also considered a base C2.

Today, I drove a few more cars. I started with a heavily optioned base C2. Nice car, and I could live with slightly less power - still a great engine, an unmistakably a 997. But I missed those remarkable C2S brakes! And I believe the PASM is well worth it too, especially in the used market.

So, just as I was about to leave the dealership, a great C2S "showed up." A guy had *just* traded it in for a Turbo Cab (lucky guy) as I was driving the C2. I watched him drive away in the Turbo, and my salesman said "You might be interested in the car he traded." So here's the car:

* 08 C2S
* 9,000 miles
* Black on black (boring if you ask me, but certainly not offensive)
* Carrera classic wheels? (not sport classics, but sort of a 5 spoke star design)
* iPod interface
* Sport seats
* Full leather
* A K40 radar detector - very cleanly installed, but I confess to not knowing anything about it. I have a Valentine1 stuck to my windshield and it works just fine for me!
* Bose
* ClearBra

The car seemed perfect to me. They obviously hadn't detailed it yet, which was perfect. When a car has just been traded, I figure that's the best time to see what it's truly like, before the blemishes are covered up. And I saw nothing, except for some mild swirl marks, which is common with black paint. It drove perfectly - felt every bit as good as the 09 C2S. Clutch was good, tires still have plenty of wear left.

SO, what's it worth? Dealer hadn't priced it yet, but tried to get me to commit to $73K with CPO. They would do a DME scan for me as well, but I have no reason to think this car is anything less than perfect. To me, $73K is nuts, considering I could probably get an 09 leftover with more options for $80K. Not to mention that it's well outside my stated limit.

However, Larry (Yrralis1) has done a nice job convincing me that my price range should be higher... isn't that always the case? What about telling them not to worry about CPO (since it still has factory warranty left) and going for $65K? Reasonable?

Otherwise, I wait for an 07 that's exactly what I want (Sports Chrono, tan interior, Sport Exhaust, etc) for less money. I'm in no rush...

The 08 might have enough warranty left to skip the CPO but I would aim for 66K with the CPO . 64K without it.

BTW --I love black on black .

I would either find a cream puff '06, or stretch for an '09. The '06 is attractive because it's an identical car, but you'll pocket $20k in savings right off the bat. The '09 is attractive because for a little more you're actually getting a better car than an '08 (plus more warranty). Looking at the big picture its hard to see how buying an '08 is a good move. There sweet spots in the market are elsewhere.

Didn't know iPod was available on 2008 cars? Thought it wasn't offered until the 09's.

for that kind of money you are better off with a base 09' car with the new interface, new motor , lights and other goodies and you can probably find one in that price range

Haha - no offense I actually really liked the black on black in person. Clean look. But I'm partial to tan or even red for leather.

Bunch of comments from folks saying I should either get an 09 or wait for the right 06/07. Argument for this 08 is that it seems perfect and new (even though no DFI, etc.) and plenty of warranty left. Tough call! I might consider offering $64K as my final offer and see what happens. It won't sell anytime soon - we're getting a snow storm today!

I agree. A used car is a here and now type of event. Every penny above that "52k" original limit counts and 64K is quiite a distance away from 80K (09) . Plus if you were to jump to 80K I feel the 09 leftiovers can not compete with the used Turbo at 85K . Especially in colorado.

This black car sounds good . The dealership is quite small though and their price of 73 K is dreamland . It's just bot worth that much but you may end up edging a little above the 64K just due to the region and availability . But look --if you walk --you still have yoir savings and that's never a bad thing.

Totally agree with all that, Larry... The dealership is actually Stevenson Imports in Denver. Quite a bit bigger than Boulder, where I drove the 09.

But I'm also finding that low 60's is a bit of a sweet spot. Autotrader has more than one 07 black/tan with lots of options and under 10K miles for low 60's. Granted, they are far away, but it makes me realize that the local 08 isn't a deal. I'll sit on that one... maybe if it's still there in a month or two, they'll be ready to make a deal!

Search continues once again...

Larry,

I got a notification that you posted a msg about interior colors, but it's not showing up here for some reason.

In any case - I agree with you... things like Cocoa, Natural Brown, or even Terra-cotta would be even more appealing, but what I see most in the used market (other than Grey and Black) is Tan. I think it's called Sand Beige. Works for me - I can only be so picky!

Can't wait to post one day that I finally have my new machine! Could be a few months, but it will be worth the wait.

IMHO $73k for that car is a greedy dealership. I got my base C2 (black/black) 6 months ago with the same mileage on it and very same options for $58k. You should be paying maybe $65k for this and no more.

I did write the post on the interior colors but had deleted it after thinking it over because I realized that color choice is so personal that if you like tan --then tan it ought to be.

I don't care for tan . I have always voiced that . Also when it comes to used cars it so hard to hit every desired option , with good miles, at the right price . It's not like buying a new car and nothing ever gets it all like special ordering the car exactly the way you want it.

I think the hardest thing for you is not going to be the color . It's trying to justify going over budget and how much over that 52K max you can handle. Only you can know and as I have always said --it's best to do nothing than buy the wrong car or spend more than one is ready to spend.

I was looking for a 50s 997 for a while and my limited research told me for ~55k you can find a 06 Cs2 with decent options + CPO (~15k-20k miles). 07 C2S would go for low 60s.

As for your budget, you need to put tax and registration into considerations too. 55k car would be ~60k out the door.

good luck with your search!

I tried to stick with my budget when test driving coz a 08 or 09 leftovers, no matter how nice and how low the price, would be out of my budget, so why bothered.
