Stats on PDK vs. Manual
#16
ive driven a race car with sequential shifter added (still had clutch, but sequential instead of H pattern.. i can understand its need for race car.. always in right gear.. no mistakes.. etc.. but it was just annoying.. would much rather have clutchless sequential.. i.e. PDK.
id your going to be **** over sequential versus H making it "faster" then you cant deny pdk is the fastest route...
i dont think sequential manual's with clutch will ever reach production cars.. would just be silly.

The sequential bridges the gap.
Even if the next step in the manual is not the sequential shift .. Porsche has to do something.. they have to move forward .... otherwise the manual will eventually phase out.. or become too expensive to make in low volume.. and the manual loyalists might start buying the competition.

I notice that in several write-ups comparing the PDK type transmissions and conventional manual transmissions the automatics have the edge in acceleration and turn in (slightly) faster lap times. However, the automatics start to lay down on the job when their internal temperatures start to rise, resulting in early shifting or refusal to go into launch mode.

Larry: trannies are complex things. Tuners may bolt a sequencer on a STD Aisin/Getrag/ZF box but that only makes it a sequential wannabe (and it will not last long). What I hear from the people who know about it within PAG is what I stated above. The future will prove me right. BTW I do not think PAG will drop a conventional manual any time soon, but now being part of VAG, who knows?
It's funny that the insecurity always comes from 6-speed drivers... We do not see PDK drivers minimizing the manual.

Hey Garden State, I was asleep and not sitting on this board. I wanted to read what everyone's thoughts were, but it seems a bunch of people on this site (second time) feel the need for sarcasm and attacks. I like the manual and I feel an automatic (whatever cool acronym is used to describe it) is for other cars. However, I do understand things will change over time, but for now I want a car powered by gasoline and that has the traditional manual shifter, but I liked reading other people's thoughts.

Once dual clutch is lighter than a manual and when it can stand the rigeurs of racing, I believe the manual will go the way of the dodo.
Im very glad that porsche went and added the option of the "flappy paddle"
At least I am now ready to buy a PDK car (I would have always refused if they kept that rather silly button arrangement).

Do you know acronyms? GFY No, I don't leave, I just block and ignore you with the site Jersey. You just attack others because you live in a state that everyone busts on.

The manual loyalists want the foot engagement interraction . They generally concede that the PDK is a faster shift but they claim to feel detached (even in manual mode).

Re tranny development - the double clutch has been in development by PAG for over 20 years and more recently by ZF and others. Trannies, I repeat, are very complex components and change very slowly.
