LOL - I love that expression. I was a "Happy Days" fan back in the day too!

Actually, I posted this without reading far enough. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid is only for motorsports . . . at least for now. It looks like however that it won't be long until a hybrid makes it into dealerships because they tell you straight up on the microsite that the platform is designed as a rolling laboratory so they can offer this technology for street cars. They are also taking e-mailing addresses for those who are interested so I'm guessing it won't be too long. I'm thinking mid-2011 as a 2012 model. This is just a guess of course, I do not have any inside information.

I really hope we don't see a hybrid 911. It makes absolutely no sense... All that added weight. The only reason German manufactures even bother with the technology is because of America's fascination with them. They have proven that diesel is far more efficient than a hybrid. Look at the new Touareg - hybrid 34.4 mpg, diesel 38.1.

Also, the technology was purchased from Williams F1. I don't see why this wouldn't be development for potential use on street cars.

In response to Keenan, they didn't say that it is going to be the most efficient vehicle available, but if they can create a drive system that allows the car to be competitive and also happen to save some gas, then why not? Also, the weight that you are so quick to discount could actually improve the dynamics of the car depending on the layout that they choose (Think location of weight not just total)

Did you read about the car - hardly what is thought of conventionally as a hybrid. Pretty wild stuff. I like the concept.
