Out of curiosity...

"My" January build 997S could not be changed so I passed on it. the dealer tried to convince me that I would be happy with a 997 basic, and suggested that adding PASM to a basic car would be a smart option.

As usual you take this kind of comment with half a salt mine, but out of curiosity has anyone driven a base 997 with PASM and 18" wheels?

No, No, No. - If you have set your sights on a 997 S then anything less will be a disappointment. Wait for the S. It is a MUCH better car and comes with PASM standard.

Why is the S so much better other than the added power?

The base Carrera with pss9's might be the way to go, you get the ride height and handling setting you want. and you can always SC it.

the 997S is a bit faster than the base model, but both are great cars IMO.

Exactly what I am thinking... the base car with pss9's and supercharger will probably be the best thing out there until the 997 turbo hits the streets.

This is good info - the 997S is a big chunk of cash, while the 997 is quite a bit more affordable....especially if you could care less about the stock 19" wheels. I also would think that the lower demand on the non"S" version may be a bit more negociable as far as price goes. The dealers that I have spoken too are all not negociating on the S model....so sad.

On my '05 997 January build I ordered the following:
Seal Grey Metallic, Standard leather seats in black, PASM, 19 inch Carrera S wheels, Electrically adjustable seats, BOSE Surround Sound System, Bi-Xenon lighting system, Sport Chrono Package Plus, CDC-4 six disc CD autochanger, Heated seats, Three-spoke sports steering wheel in leather, Deletion of model designation. I have decided that the standard 997 is fast enough for me... I have rather opted for handling options in this vehicle.

With the "S" you get:
More HP 355
Bigger brakes (turbo)
PASM
19"wheels
Sport steering wheel (smaller dia round)
Bi-Xenon lights

I would seriously consider the adaptive sport seats. They are great!

If you're considering a base 997, why not look at a remaining '05 C4S, there are a few out there I'm sure you would get a great deal too. AWD, sport suspension, turbo brakes, turbo radiator, etc. Just add the SC and go!
Here I go again Flynn.

Chris,

It never ends with you...... The C4S will be the 997 style sooner or later you know, then what are you going to say? You'll have nothing to complain about.

As to the C4S, I came to the conclusion that I prefered rwd to awd - the car felt nose heavy and I could never get the back to come out when I wanted it to as the drive seemed to be shunted to the front wheels.

I still have a slot for a 997S April build but I'm using the time between now and then to make sure it's the best option. I'm also looking at a 996 Anniversary. I've found a couple with almost zero miles and priced in the mid 70's. That's the price for a reasonably equiped 997, but with 25 more hp.

Go with the 997S, all models will be 997 platform sooner or later; have you driven an S ?, I think you'll be happier with the 997.
