2005 C2S Cab - Pricing Thoughts

http://new-country.porschedealer.com...52866/info.php

Considering trading my '08 C2S coupe for a cab and came across this one locally. Need some help with pricing. The car looks very clean and nicely equipped but I haven't seen it yet in person. I'm not a big fan of the colored gauges but could live with them. Any significant known issues with the '05's? Thoughts on the asking price? It's not listed as being CPO'd which causes me some concern.

05's have been reported as having more issues than later model years, no wonder, because it was the first MY after the 996. Search for "997 IMS" and "997 RMS" in google or here in the forum.

There are also many 05 owners who reported having an absolutely trouble-free 997.

I personally would buy an 05 only with CPO or extented warranty. Just my 2cents.

PS: the car looks great, but my impression is that you can still negotiate the price $3-4k down.

Good luck.

Agree that an '05 deserves a CPO and price seems a bit high without it. Perhaps, they are going to use this as a bargaining point.

You might miss sport chrono depending on how you plan to drive. Full leather is nice.

Looks very nice; gorgeous deep color and natural leather. I almost bought an '07 coupe last summer in this configuration - it's a very attractive combo. Pics do not do it justice.

Appears to also have short shifter and heated seats both of which weren't listed in the description.

If that's what your after, do it!

To the OP, you might want to double check the options list that the leather is really Natural Leather as advertised. The interior color shade to me looks exactly like my car, which is Sand Beige. I think Natural Leather is a nicer, more expensive and rare option.

BTW henrysko, how do you tell that it has a short shifter just by looking at it?

Just an assumption since it looks similar to mine which has the factory sport shifter.

Car is CPO'd. I suspect that my current 2008 coupe is worth more on trade than the asking price of this car. Anyone have any luck trading in a car and having the dealer write a check back for the excess?

I did it once . In 1999 I bought a 328i DD but also placed a deposit on the 996tt for 2001 model year. I had this stupid idea that selling the 993tt with 25K miles would take the money off the road with great expectation about the 996tt. Ah.. capricious youth.

I got a check back for over 42K and plunked it into investment . Well three things happened -
1) I got bored of the 328i
2) The investments faced about the same loss had I kept my turbo (1999 was the dot com end)
3) The 996tt was AWFUL - when I saw it i had no desire to buy it .

I was left with no Porsche, an old BMW. less momey .. and to this day i kick myself fir selling the 993tt.
I bought an E39 M5 instead inn 2000 and hated it. One month later .. I bought a regular 996 (2000) .

Don't do this . You have such a nice car . If you MUST trade .. go UPWARD not backward. In short .. a 997tt Cab .

I hear you and have reservations however, a turbo is not an option as a nice CPO'd one will easily cost an additional $35k+ over the value of my current car. I'll likely keep my car unless I come across a nice newer ('07 or '08) 997S or 4S cab.

I have issues with commitment and am suffering with the 2 year itch. I have historically leased my cars for 24 months due to my short attention span. I bought the 997 outright just about 2 years ago and am getting the itch for something new but don't have the means this year to upgrade.

To the OP...sounds as if a cab version of your present car may turn your 2 year itch (which is a respectable timeframe BTW) into a 2 month itch.

Assuming your primary residence is in CT, the top won't be down all year round. Even summer months in CT it can get way too hot with the roof down.

And as for pricing...always ask a trusted dealer (or forum) for current Manheim pricing. Having that knowledge can go a long way in a favorable negotiation.

Enjoy your '08 C2S coupe for a tad longer if you can

I spent some time with New Country and drove several of their cars. They were expensive and not willing to bargain - but that was just my experience. Last I checked they STILL have SIX 2009 leftovers. They would rather let their cars rot than deal.
The natural brown leather is gorgeous and really expensive, although I would agree with you and I don't think I could look at those dials every day. I really appreciate the throttle response of the sport chrono around town - I wouldn't chose one without it.
Also, with ridiculously low miles you are more susceptable to RMS/ IMS issues than with a car that has been driven. I would be with yrallis in that you really want a car with the dfi now. And Taylor's point as well - our top down time is a couple of months - I love my sunroof.

While I would really really really think twice about trading in an 08 for an 05 with no warranty, the car is beautiful - but about $10,000 too expensive, you can get 05 Cabs for less than $50k
