Memorable trip to the pizza parlor

So last Saturday here in Cincinnati on errands I decide to go wash the 997...filthy! So after doing that I'm hungry and drive a few blocks down to have lunch - a nice quiet lunch, which I needed. I park the car right in front of a bunch of windows that look into the restaurant.

As luck would have it, they seat me at a booth at the window directly facing the car. It was weird but seated there I got a different look at it (only had it for 7 months). If you look close enough you can see how the front fenders flare like the 356. An older couple get seated in the booth directly behind me.

The lady says "look at that beautiful car"...the guy says "Porsche"...I stay quiet and they go on to guess what year it is, how much it costs, and how gorgeous it is. I just grinned. They were talking other cars in the lot and the lady says "I want that car right there", referring to mine. Then a minivan pulls up next to me and the guy goes "and that mom and her kids are gonna bash it when they get out"...but they didn't. In fact, the 10 year-old in back couldn't wait to snap off a few pics of it, while I just watched him and realized that was me when I was 10, lusting after a 928.

So, I guess even a base, "mostly" stock 997.1 can even impress the locals. I thought to myself "and I get to drive her when I leave here."

Always nice to hear these stories. Always nice to experience the things you've described. The impact of these cars both on ourselves and others is amazing.

And we're the owners/drivers. Aren't we a lucky bunch!

Yes, the stories are nice and we are lucky to be the owners of such fine machinery. The funny thing is that I've gotten a few nice comments about my '87 Carrera Coupé and not by guys who, like me, grew up in the 80s, but by guys (and one girl) in their teens and 20s. It's nice to know there are some who still appreciate nice things even when they are not the latest and greatest anymore.

Funny thing was, I couldn't believe it was happening. It was like a car show in the restaurant parking lot. I guess black looks really great when it's clean.

Great story and a good reminder how lucky we are. It's easy to become jaded with trying to get every detail perfect, weighing the pros and cons of modification, worrying about repairs, etc... but something like this puts it all in perspective and helps to renew the fire. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting!

I receive my first 911 tomorrow and I can't wait! I'll probably wash it and then park it to just take in the sight, smell, sound, etc. Nothing better than reading the cars manual parked in a parking lot somewhere with it running...

Man how will I sleep tonight!?!?

Nice story! I really like it.
Although I am owning my 911 just for nearly 3 month, it became already a "normal" part in my life. Sometimes I dont think about the luck I have to drive this car.
But when I look around I have seen in 6 months in my area 5 other 911 (no kidding) - and than I realize that this car is still special.
For us a base 911 is "normal"(probably), but for 95% of the normal people this car is special and we should appreicate it that we can drive this german engineering at its finest
