No Bose - dealbreaker?

ANY person that knows anything about hi-fi will agree that Bose is just horrible. It is a cheaply made, under performing product backed by a fantastic marketing team.
There are so many Bose reviews on the net, just Google it.. You will be very surprised.
After all there is an old saying" NO highs, NO lows, it blows, must be Bose"
Save your $$.

Stock is fine. Bose takes up room and adds weight. I'm entertained by the sound of the engine as well as the stereo. The real answer depends on the type of music you listen to. I like jazz, so it really isn't bass heavy. If you like bass heavy music, then you'd probably want bose or even go aftermarket for best quality/value ratio.

Here's a tip I can offer those with the 997.2 non-Bose system. By default (or if you should reset the PCM 3.0) the "loudness" option is selected. The "loudness" option is designed to enhance the bass when listening at low volume and it does that job quite well. However, if you listen at anything more than background volume you will want to turn "loudness" off. If you don't, the bass becomes quite muddy. If you want more bass simply use the regular bass control instead the "loudness". You should find the results much more pleasing.
Great tip...I'll give that a try.

i believe you!
the Bose system is a shame for such an expensive car. Really.

Anyone who spends extra on a bose system is a fool. You're better off going with the standard setup and installing aftermarket once you have the car. The money spent on overpriced bose upgrades will cover the costs of a MUCH better system.

yeah all about marketing and brainwashing. Actually, i'm surprised Porsche inc. don't offer any Monster Cable option

I have a 997 without Bose and think the sound system is crap. I bought a subwoofer unit off a breaker, opened it up, removed the amp and replaced it with a small Blaupunkt amp, with auto power on/off, feeding off the two rear speakers. The sound system is transformed and probably pretty close to the Bose setup. About shelf space - you dont really lose any because the sub sits in the depression behing tghe rear seats, and sits flush with the rear portion of the rear shelf. Total installation costs were about $350 and it doesnt void the warranty because there are no permanenet connections to the car's wiring.

Guys, get educated on Bose products and then make comments!!
Multiple 4" paper cones(901 flagship), with tiny magnets and 40-50hz bumped to make you feel like you are hearing a lot of bass. IT'S a marketing scam and most people are falling for it!!
Must be good, its on TV late at night!!
READ the reviews, experts are not lying.

Problem in this car's sound system (Bose in 997.1 at least) is the poor overall design of the speakers, including the awful subwoofer and high-frequencies transducer.
Obviously no one in Porsche's R&D dept care about sound systems. Maybe they should leave Bose and let a serious company like B&O do the design..

My daily driver is a Toyota Camry and it comes with one of the best stock sound systems at no extra charge (at least it did when this one was built, I don't know about the new ones). It's made by JBL who unlike Bose and B&O does produce professional audio products. JBL is best known to audio professionals for their high performance speaker systems that are designed for sound reinforcement (live sound) applications. They can take the power and the bass remains super clean at very high SPL's! (sorry, I forget which forum I'm on - LOL!) That stands for Sound Pressure Levels. Perhaps they don't have a name that is "hoity toity" enough for Porsche but they definitely have the know-how to build a great system.
